Sports Development Dublin City Council is using sport as an effective tool in engaging young people, at risk of drug misuse, into more structured and positive activities. What do Sports Development Officers do? Organise sports programmes for youth at risk, involving them in the design and planning process. Work with National Governing Bodies of Sport, Youth Service Projects, Garda Special Projects, Outreach Youth Workers and Local Drugs Task Forces. Assist sports clubs and groups in applying for funding. Access training for coaches and volunteers. Work in partnership with schools, community groups and centres to increase access for young people to sports and recreational facilities.
