SSS TRIP REPORT
MEMORANDUM FOR: 16th ISSC Planning Team and EC FROM: (name of rep) Perry D'Antonio SUBJECT: RAMS Conference Attendance LOCATION: Anaheim DATES: conference was Jan 19-22, 1998 I attended on Jan 21 PURPOSE: Promote SSS and our conference and participate in RAMS Management Committee meeting ATTENDEES: 444 paid and 160 gratis for a total of 610; 20 countries and 80 attendees. 1 Russian Exhibitor (attachment, if many) AGENDA: 3.5 days of technical sessions (attachment) HIGHLIGHTS: I made contact with Debra Herrmann (703-413-7337). She seems to have the right qualifications and has indicated her desire to do a tutorial at our conference. GIDEP was an exhibitor. The individual manning the booth gave me the name of Tom Myers (909-273-4677) at GIDEP to contact regarding exhibiting at our conference. They have a web page at www.gidep.corona.navy.mil that has some safety related data links but they are looking for more. I met Richard Doyle (619-459-6504), past President of IEEE’s Reliability Society. He is interested in talking about a joint venture with us on the Handbook. I got numerous points of contact to send our conference announcement to. I will enter the names into e-mail and send them an invitation. At the Management Committee meeting I had the opportunity to hear from some of the industry problems. Carl Carlson, Mgr. Reliability Engineering, General Motors, is interested in the designed-in approach for improved reliability. I approached him with the philosophy that the SSS has a similar focus for safety and many of the tools are common. I will send him some info on the SSS and the conference. I passed out SSS and conference info. Thanks to Harvey Schock for setting up the SSS display. I noticed that our display was very monochromatic and uninspiring. The only color was the 1996 & 1997 Proceedings. The SSS banner was laying on top of a table with the black & white brochures on top. The booth that Benny helped create would have helped make us look more professional. The next RAMS conference is in DC and we should try to have our booth there. RAMS is soliciting candidates to serve on the Management Committee. The Management Committee organizes the conferences. The SSS also is seeking a replacement for Dev Reheja, our west coast rep. Dev has indicated he is stepping down from the Board of Directors. If interested, contact Jim Fitzgerald, Director of Government and Intersociety Affairs.
