I want to apply my experience in the IT industry to the process of learning, whether in schools, libraries or museums or in a company that serves these sectors. I have managed programmers, designed systems, and helped customers in both the commercial software and applications environments for twenty years. To prepare for the transition from commercial to learning systems, I have taken a hiatus to earn a degree with the UNC School of Information & Library Science, and engaged in two research projects, listed below.

Recent Projects
XML Search Engine Developed a search engine driven by RDF based retrieval schemas to index collections of one or more SGML and XML database, and rank and retrieve all or parts of documents. Version 2 server is being rewritten in Perl 5 in Unix/Linux environment. Botnet/Plant Information Center Digital Library Served as DBA and Technical Architect for a searchable virtual museum of herbarium specimens and plant metadata, using PHP, ASP, MySQL, Access.

Project manager for a $2MM OO development project for a government agency, using C++, VB, MQ Series, SQL Server & NT. Helped to develop the n-tier SDLC and framework. As Object Architect for same project, wrote branch standards for structured analysis and object modeling using UML (Select Enterprise), and lead teams of analysts and user SME’s in the development of systems requirements, designs and acceptance criteria. Project manager and lead analyst for a technology transfer, enhancement and Y2K remediation the disbursement system for CIGNA Retirement Services. Analyst. Member of the team that developed the worldwide pricing system (PRS)for IBM.

Team lead , data conversion, for Virgin Islands Paternity Enforcement & Reporting System.

Manager of all programmers and applications for a regional retail bank with multiple islands, national governments, and currencies. Assisted with migration of core applications to central site, and technology transfer from IBM mainframe, COBOL, CICS environment to decentralized PC network applications.

1984-1989 Customer Support Manager, TSI International, Wilton, Connecticut


Support Manager. Responsible for all system maintenance, distribution and customer support for a suite of internationally marketed software. Supervised and trained support reps in telephone and on-site troubleshooting and customer education. Professional Services Manager. Created and managed a department to provide after-market development services for TSI software products. Worked with customers to define software solutions for their unique problems.
