Q: If you had to choose one place to live for the rest of your life, where would it be? A: I could’ve moved south and I had to make this decision but I came back home after college and there is no place I would rather live than in Pennsylvania. Q: If you could eat anything right now, what would it be? A: I would have steak on a grill, a baked potato, corn on the cob, and a coke. Q: What do you enjoy to do in your free time? A: I enjoy being outdoors, hunting and fishing, field trialing my beagles, collecting old Lionel trains, and coaching youth softball. Q: If you were a superhero, what power would you like to have? A: I think the coolest super power is to be able to fly. Q: What period of time would you go to if you had a time machine and why? A: I would go to the medieval times. I think that it is one of the most intriguing times. Q: What did you want to be when you were twelve? A: I think I wanted to be in the army, or maybe I wanted to be a fireman. Q: What was your favorite subject in high school? A: I think my favorite subject was math because of the teacher. A good teacher can make the worst class fun. Q: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what are three things you would have with you (excluding transportation)? A: I would have flint, food, and a machete. Mr. Turek feels that Frazier is a great school with great staff and students and is in a great community. His goal is to maintain the level of excellence that Frazier has already obtained. He says that “everyone is happy because of the great standards we already have.”

Mr. Turek
Anna Progar and Jessica White As you all know, Frazier High School is home to a new Assistant Principal named Mr. Michael Turek. Mr. Turek resides in Perryopolis, however, he has not lived there all his life. He is a native of Connellsville and grew up in a community called Georgetown Manor. In search of his dream job, Mr. Turek attended three different colleges and obtained a different degree in each. The first school he attended was Edinboro University where he earned his degree in elementary education. He then attended California University of Pennsylvania for his masters in Special Education. His third and final school he attended was St. Francis University of PA where he got his principal certification for grades kindergarten through twelve. As an assistant principle, Mr. Turek deals mostly with discipline, safety, the SAP program, teacher observations, and meetings. Now let’s get to know a side of Mr. Turek that many may not know. Q: How do you think a close friend would describe you? A: A close friend would describe me as someone who is very loyal. You don’t need a lot of friends; you just need ones you can count on. Q: What motivates you to put forth your greatest effort? A: When I feel like I’ve made an impact in a student’s life, which really gives me motivation. Q: What was your favorite job growing up? A: Well my least favorite job was working for PENNDOT turning the stop sign; it was boring and very dangerous. My favorite job was working in Connellsville at the Yough Opalescent Stain Glass factory.

To Maintain a level of excellence Frazier has already achieved.

Health for Teens
Kayla Barch Have you ever had to overcome a bad habit or addiction? It’s not that easy is it? Well, believe it or not, one of the hardest addictions for teenagers to “kick” now is smoking cigarettes. Smoking is a hard habit to break because of the tobacco in the cigarette. It contains nicotine, which is highly addictive. Like any other harmful addictive drug, the body and mind quickly become so used to the nicotine in cigarettes that a person needs to have it just to feel normal. Sadly, adolescent smoking is the top cause for lung cancer, heart disease, and other bodily complications. People start smoking of a variety of different reasons. Some think it looks cool. Others start because their family members of friends smoke. But none of this is relevant, smoking cigarettes is very harmful and dangerous and there are ways to stop smoking. If you are really serious about stopping your bad habit, one of the first steps to take is telling your peers and relatives, such as your family and friends, that you are determined to quit. They should respect your decision and prevent you from being able to obtain cigarettes. Also, you should place yourself in a “Smoke Free Zone.” Do not let yourself be around anyone who smokes. Some other quick tips include, getting a prescription to help you quit, talking to other quitters or even going as far as to joining a support group. Here are some simple but blunt reasons why one should stop such a bad habit:: • Having money to go back to school, work less hours, or go on vacation. • No energy to exercise. • It is an expensive habit– 1 pack a day = about $1000/year. • Bring turned down for life insurance. • Not being able to find an apartment because no one wants to rent to smokers. • The thought of harming your unborn baby. • • Secondhand smoke kills family members too. 75% of children smoke because their parents do.

Miss Brubaker
Zach Lash Recently, some time was taken to conduct a sit down Q&A session with one of Frazier’s newest faculty members, Miss Brubaker. Q: Where did you attend high school and college at? A: “I attended high school in Lancaster County at Hempfield High School, not to be confused with the one in Greensburg, for college I attended the University of Pittsburgh for my undergraduate and graduate studies.” Q: How do you like you first year at Frazier thus far? A: “I love it here, I grew up in the country and a small town so this is like a second home to me.” Q: Have you taught anywhere else prior to coming to Frazier? A: “I have actually, I taught Earth and Space science in a Pittsburgh suburb for two years.” Q: What is your biggest pet peeve? A: “Does this have to be school related? Haha, I would have to say filing finger nails.” Q: What is your advice for your incoming freshmen next semester? A: “Be organized, be focused, and don’t be afraid to show how smart you are.” Q: Would you ever consider purchasing a pet armadillo? A: “Haha, sure why not?” Q: What is your greatest fear? A: “This will sound really runny, but falling backwards, anything with backward motion scares me. My first two car accidents were from backing up my car.” Q: What’s your favorite item on the school lunch menu? A: “Oh my there’s so many, I would have to say chicken nuggets though.” Q: Would you ever quit your teaching job to become a professional bowler? A: “Absolutely not, I love teaching, I think that it’s the best and most rewarding career you could possibly have.” Q: Who do you think is a better athlete, Ben Roethlisberger, or Sidney Crosby? A: “Oh boy, Sidney Crosby, as much as I love the Steelers, I still say Sidney Crosby.”

Twilight
Kayla Barch and Brittany Traynor "Softly he brushed my cheek, then held my face between his marble hands.’Be very still,' he whispered, as if I wasn't already frozen. Slowly, never moving his eyes from mine, he leaned toward me. Then abruptly, but very gently, he rested his cold cheek against the hollow at the base of my throat." In Twilight, an exquisite fantasy by Stephenie Meyer, readers discover a pair of lovers who are supremely star-crossed. Bella (Kristin Stewart) adores beautiful Edward (Robert Pattinson), and he returns her love. But Edward is having a hard time controlling the blood lust she arouses in him, because--he's a vampire. At any moment, the intensity of their passion could drive him to kill her, and he agonizes over the danger. But, Bella would rather be dead than part from Edward, so she risks her life to stay near him, and the novel burns with

the erotic tension of their dangerous and necessarily elevated relationship. Bella has come to the small town of Forks on the gloomy Olympic Peninsula to be with her father. At school, she wonders about a group of five remarkably beautiful teens, who sit together in the cafeteria but never eat. As she grows to know, and then love, Edward, she learns their secret. They are all rescued vampires, part of a family headed by saintly Carlisle, who has inspired them to forgo human prey. For Edward's sake they welcome Bella, but when a nomadic group of tracker vampires fixates on her, the family is drawn into a desperate pursuit to protect the fragile human in their midst. In theaters now. GO SEE IT!!

National Honor Society
Kayla McClellan & Derek Thompson The National Honor Society has a lot planned for the month of December. They will be selling tickets for the annual Snowball dance until December 11th during both lunch periods. The dance will be held at the Holiday Inn in Uniontown on December 19th. The cost is $15 for a single ticket and $30 for a couple. They are urging students to buy their tickets as soon as possible because the dance is earlier than usual this year.
