Personalised Learning Environments (PLEs)
n Learners take control of and manage their own
    learning.
n Learners:
    ¨ settheir own learning goals
¨ manage their learning; managing both content and
      process
¨ communicate with others in the process of learning
(adapted from a definition by Mark van Harmelen, June
     2006).
Connected learning environments
n Connected learning is based on three
    principles:
    ¨ Connection: Investigation, development and
      deployment of Internet-enabled technologies to
connect people who have a goal i.e. education,
      personal interest, investigation
¨ Experimentation : learning by doing in a safe,
      trusted environment
    ¨ Learner-Centered: A greater degree of self-
      determination and customisation of the
      experience particularly in education
