You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go.” The Lorax • This book explains how people are destroying the environment and nature. “I hear things are just as bad up in Lake Erie,” was one of the things written in the book, but 14 years after the book was published, the Ohio Sea Grant Program wrote to Dr. Seuss telling him how much the conditions had improved. He asked him to take the line out and Dr. Seuss agreed that it wouldn’t be in future editions. The Cat in the Hat • “The Cat in the Hat” was written because kids weren’t interested in books, and weren’t compelled to use it in their efforts to learn to read. So, “The Cat in the Hat” was created. Dr. Seuss’s publisher supplied him with a list of 400 words that he thought kids in school would use. The Cat In The Hat, 223 words that appeared on the list plus 13 words that did not. Green Eggs and Ham • Bennett Cerf, (who was Dr. Suess’s editor), said that he bet Dr. Suess couldn’t write a book with fifty word or less. So Dr. Suess came up with “Green Eggs and Ham”. The 50 words used are a, am, and, anywhere, are, be, boat, box, car, could, dark, do, eat, eggs, fox, goat, good, green, ham, here, house, I, if, in, let, like, may, me, mouse, not, on, or, rain, Sam, say, see, so, thank, that, the, them, there, they, train, tree, try, will, with, would, you. How the Grinch Stole Christmas • Seuss was a little wary of casting the Grinch because he thought his voice would be too scary for kids. The people who created the voice of the Grinch went back to the Grinch’s parts and removed all of the high tones in the Grinch’s voice. That’s why the Grinch sounds so gravelly. • The Cat in the Hat, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Green Eggs and Ham, and the Lorax are the most popular Dr. Suess’s books created. • Throughout his career, he has written 60 books. His books have topped many bestseller lists, has sold over 222 million copies, and has been translated into more than 15 languages. • At various times Dr. Seuss also wrote books for adults that used the same style of verse and pictures. These adult books include “The Seven Lady Godivas”, “Oh, The Places You'll Go!” (which has become a popular gift for graduating students), and You're Only Old Once! (which narrates an old man's journey through a clinic.) These are credits..
