Dear Parent or Guardian:

Dowell’s PTA is beginning a new, ongoing recycling fundraiser. There’s nothing to buy. We are
simply asking you to protect the environment by donating your used cellular phone(s), ink jet
cartridge(s), laptop / notebook computer(s), iPod(s), digital camera(s) and digital video
camera(s). Your used item(s) may be tax deductible and will be recycled in accordance with EPA
regulations or refurbished and sold. 100% of the proceeds will help fund Dowell’s PTA which
provides much needed funds to our school.

Note: We cannot accept accessories such as phone chargers, car chargers, headphones,
ear-pieces, etc. Laptop cords are ok to donate.

We greatly appreciate your support! Ask your family, friends, and neighbors to donate, too!

Key Information:

1. The donation bin is located in the main hallway, across from the main office. The bin is set up to
receive small electronics or cartridges. If you have something larger, like a laptop, please turn it in at the
main office for the PTA.

2. The electronic equipment does not need to work, but we receive more money for working equipment.
Also, working or not, the battery does not need to be charged before donation.

3. Your information is secure. The phones will be “flashed” before recycling or refurbishing. This means
any data is wiped out of the memory.

Tax Deductible Donation Acknowledgement

Thank you for donating your cellular phone(s), ink jet cartridge(s), laptop / notebook computer(s), iPod(s), digital
camera(s) and digital video camera(s). Dowell Elementary School and PTA cannot confirm receipt of your donation,
so please keep accurate records. We also cannot make any determination as to the value of the specific item(s) you
have donated to us. Generally speaking, older items will not warrant a tax deduction (but still can be recycled). You
should consult your tax advisor regarding value determination for tax purposes. The IRS requires the following
information for tax deductions of $250 or less. Please fill in the information indicated below and retain this for your
tax records.
