Winter Winter is always a stilling time - perhpas it was the ordering of fate that placed his birth in that precise season - or perhaps it was simply bad luck. Alder was born in the heart of winter when the jeshuva trees ladden with ice crystals snapped as they always do when the weight of frozen water becomes too much for the slender branches to bear. There was only his mother and his father to witness his birth for Alder was born at the library of Vim far from any civilization. Why a vast library would be build in the middle of nowhere was a question that Alder often asked his father and his father's response was always the same, "The books are safer when no one touches them." Alder understood the answer, but it still seemed odd to him that the builders of the library would position it deep in the Woldron Woods and staff the entire compound with magic servants to tend the grounds and keep the collection protected.
