Rich Pepe claimed a letter to the editor we printed about him last Friday was racist against Italians and started a Facebook campaign to determine whether Tom Parks, the author of the letter, should be removed from the city's cultural commission. Lawsuit threats against us continued to pile up and we have a summary of the likely claims. And my editorial breaks some new ground and offers a startling revelation about what really went on when the Racey Promotions girls showed up at Pepe's restaurant two weeks ago. One of this city's longest-running controversies has been what to do about the decrepit Scout House. A group that offers ballet classes for kids at a building next door says it wants to renovate the place. Mary Schley reports. The city's ban on plastic bags has gone into effect, and Mayor Jason Burnett had a wonderful retort to criticism from the people who make those ubiquitous bags. Pacific Grove businesses are singing the blues about the closure of the town's main intersection for almost two months for various upgrades, and they're asking their regular customers not to forget they're there. A man who lives in town has been sentenced to three years in prison for breaking into a neighbor's house.
