1-21-06 Word Aqeeda derived from AQADA ein qaf da - means "to tie". Word uqda means knot. So aqeeda means to tie your heart to somethign "whether good or bad" i.e. we use the words when describing jews and christians also. the word Aqeeda is NOTused in the Quran or the Sunnah. It's merely a classificational word that came later when scholars taught creed. The first time it was used was by Imam as-sabouni in 449 A.H. in a book called Aqeeda bAs-Salaf. before that we use words like Sharia, Iman. Six volume work on Aqeeda called "sharia" by Imam Ajurni (ajur means red brick). anther name - "Definite ruling" - hukm al-qatr other terms: "greatest fiqh" - fiqh al-akbar. especially hanafi scholars used this phrase. also "principles of iman" - usul ad-din also Tawheed Also Deen - very rich word with multiple meanings: Meanings of "Deen" 1) thul - humbleness 2) ibada - worship 3) ta'ah - obedience 4) Jaza - reward 5) Ada - Habit Islam means to surrender, to submit, to give up. "aslama ruhow" means to give up your sword. root means - sa la ma - means peace Islam also literally means the religion of the Muslims. Topics in Aqeeda: - Belief in Allah, His Names and Attributes (2nd year) - Belief in the Messengers - Belief in the Angels - Belief in teh Day of Judgment - Issues of belief and disbelief - Love and hate for the sake of Allah - Issues of Destiny and divine decree qada w'al qadr - Innovations and Innovators. Deviant sects Do we discuss issues of Fiqh in Aqeeda? generally no, but sometimes we do because an aqeeda issue will creat a fiqh division. ex. the Shia rejected the tradition about wiping the socks in wudu despite it being reported by over 70 sahaba. Thus, they distinguised themselves by this practice so it bgan to be mentioned in books of Aqeeda as well. (*thought - was the division the result of an aqeeda difference? like was the hadith was rejected because of the stance on the sahaba's ability to transmit hadith and thus it's mentioned in aqeeda books? or was it simply a superficial divide) 1-22-06 Islamic Creed Qualities distinguishing characteristics: 1. derived from Quran & Sunnah - this itself is only significant because it is unchanged and pure, not according to desire. 2. Nothing added to it - Bible has been revised several times. 3. Preserved and protected - Allah has taken it upon himself to protect Quran. 4. Monotheistic Creed - there is no other pure monotheism in the world. Sometimes, we say "aqeeda attawheed" 5. No mediators between you and Allah - you have a direct relationship. No priests, etc. The testimony includes two things: Negation and Affirmation - first you say there is no deity (negation), then say except Allah (affirmation). remember the pagans of Mecca did not deny there was a God, they just wanted to worship idols too.. so have to negate. What does it mean? La Illaha illallah = no deity worthy or worship except Allah. - Can't say "no God except Allah" because that statement is insufficient - the fact is that there are many gods in the world undeserving of their worship. Does not exclude the possibility of shirk. - can't say "no creator except Allah" - insufficient because it doesnt' include the idea that only Allah can be worshipped. the pagan arabs admitted Allah was God and creator, but wanted to commit shirk. First duty saying shahada - worshipping Allah. Why is this first priority? 1) the proof is that when Mohd (saw) sent muadh ibn jabal to yemen, he told him to call the people first to "la illaha illallah". 2) Also, Allah says in 2:21 "we have certainly sent to each nation a messenger with a message to tell people to worship Allah." however this is medini revelation so it gets debated as to it being. 3) logical proof - all of your deeds are no good without shahada Virtues of Tawheed Whoever said La ilaha ilAllah will enter paradise hadith of the card - on the day of judgment and a man came before Allah and the angels brought out 99 scrolls of bad deeds that stretched out to the horizon. Then the angels brought out one card with only shahada written on it and it outweighed. Sheikh says that you have to say it sincerely for it to count and for people to receive dawah from you. the day of Arafa - Prophet (saw) said the best of all dua is the dua on the day of Arafa and the best i said and prophets before me said : La ilaha ilAllah wahdahu La sharika lah, lahul mulkuwalahu hamd...... " the best of all duas begins with shahada. Conditions of the statement: there are 8: 1) knowledge - "fa3lam innahu la ilaha illAllah" God commanded him to "know" shahada not say it. 47:19 2) certainty - Prophet said "whoever said la ilaha illAllah with certainty in his heart will enter paradise" 3) acceptance - you should accept it. it won't help you if you say it but you dont' accept it. Some of the kuffar used to do this where they just say it. 4) obedience 5) truthfulness 6) Sincerity - munafiqin don't count. 7) Love 8) Rejection - refers to the negation of shahada. (sometimes this is not mentioned as the first seven should be enough) the conditions are analogized to the ridges of a key - need them all to open a lock. 1-28-06 Virtues of Tawheed Hadith "oh muadh, do you know what the right of Allah is on his servants and what is the right of the servants upon Allah? Muad said "Allah and his messenger know best" Prophet said "the right of Allah upon his servants is that they worship Him alone and not associate anything with him. The right of the sevants upon Allah is that he does not punish whoever does not associate anything with him." [Bukhari and Muslim] hadith "whoever testifies taht there is none worthy of being worhsipped but Allah, who has no partner, and that Muhammad is his servant and Mesenger, and that Isa is the servant of Allah, his messenger and his word which he bestowed in Maryma and a spirit from Him, and that Paradise is ture, and that the fire is true, Allah will admit him into paradise, whatever his deeds may be." [Bukhari and Muslim]. question for sheikh "hadith says "the word which he bestoyed in maryam - does that mean Jesus was the word of God as the christians say?" What do you learn from this? - vastness of the bounty of Allah - Mercy - virtue of tawheed - that it will save you from hellfire - tawheed erases all sins hadith of Musa regarding tawheed "Musa went to Allah and asked him "oh my lord, teach me something by which I can remember you and supplicate to you;" Allah answered "say la ilaha illAllah" Musa said "oh my lord, all your slaves say this... (in the book page 22) page 11-24-. we read these pages in class of explanation of kitab at tahid. 1-29-06 Categories of Tawheed. Some divide into 2 categories: 1) tawheed al ma3rifa w’al-ithbat (tawheed of knowledge and affirmation) 2) tawheed at-talab w’al Qasd (tawheed of actions and intentions) ibn al qayem. Died 756H. he mentioned these divisions. Of course there are others. Thing is, prophet didn’t divide up tawheed, he didn’t put conditions on kalima, but we understand them to be the case. Other scholars divide tawheed into 3 cateogories: 1) tawheed ar-rububiya: oneness in lordship 2) tawheed al-uluhiya: the oneness in worshipping Allah 3) tawheed al asma w’as-siffat. Affirming that which Allah has affirmed for himself without distortion or denial or saying who they are. (we affirm both what Allah has affirmed and what the Messenger affirmed) which grouping is correct? 2 categories or 3 categories? Both are correct. Look: tawheed of knowledge is part of rububiya, and affirmation is like asma w’as-siffat. Taweed of actions and intentions is like uluhiya. Safarini d. 1112 mentioned this division of 3 types and now people mostly do 3. rububiya includes 3 things: Allah is creator, Allah is owner, Allah is provider. Do these divisions exist in the book of Allah? Evidence of rububiya. 1:2 - Lord of Allah the worlds. 2:21 – God created. Sura ruum. 30:40 - It is Allah Who has created you: further, He has provided for your sustenance; then He will cause you to die; and again He will give you life. Are there any of your (false) "Partners" who can do any single one of these things? Glory to Him! and high is He above the partners they attribute (to him)! Evidence of uluhiya. Fatiha – eyaka nabudu. Means only worship you. Taha 20:14 – I am God, there is no God but me, so worship me. 23:23 – noah tells people there is no God but Allah so worship only him evidence of asma w’as-siffat. Ayat al kursi, ikhlas, any ayah that has lots of attributes. Sura araf:180 “The most beautiful names belong to Allah: so call on him by them; but shun such men as use profanity in his names: for what they do, they will soon be requited.” Includes all 3 types of tawheed. Sura maryam 19:65 “"Lord of the heavens and of the earth, and of all that is between them; so worship Him alone, and be constant and patient in His worship: knowest thou of any who is worthy of the same Name as He?"” These days, people add a 4th type of tawheed: tawheed al-hakimiya. Means the oneness in Allah’s ability to legislate, make Allah the ruler. What’s the evidence for this? “whoever does not judge according to what Allah has revealed, then he is from the disbelievers” 5:44. 2-4-06 Books of Aqeeda - a historical preview - no books were written at the time of the Prophet (saw). their aqeeda was pure. Hadith of the Messenger - "you will not come close to the messengers." Quran says Allah is pleased with the companions. Sura fatah 26th juz. Also in sura tauba. - during the time of the companions when the fitna happened by killing othman and the battle between ali and muawia. When did the fitna start? Hadith "Omar will be the door to fitna" Hudaifa was asked by Omar "who knows about fitna?" and hudaifa said "fitna is your wealth and your family, etc." and Omar said "no I mean the fitna that will cause people to leave this deen" and hudaifa said "what do you need to know about that kind of fitna. there is a door between you and it." After Omar was martyred, the people asked hudaifa if Omar knew he was going to die - Hudaifa said "yes I told him there is a door between him and the fitna." (the Prophet used to tell hudaifa the secrets.. hudaifa used to know the names of the hypocrites, etc.). But even Ali and Muawiya did not have an issue of aqeeda. They would still pray together. Hadith "the hour will not come until two groups on the same path will fight each other" - scholars said ali and muwiyya. - after battle of ali and muawiyya, the khawarij said that Ali deviated because he accepted the judgment of men instead of God. topic for next year. - in sahih muslim, book of iman. The first hadith in sahih muslim is about qadr - "ibn Omar said a man came to him telling him that there are people talking about Qadar.. etc, Ibn Omar distances himself from that man by quoting the Prophet" - the point is, this is when deviation happened. - first deviant sects are "murji'a, khawarij, jahmia, ar-rafida." - murji'a - ji'a means to delay. These people were shocked by the battle between ali and muawiya so they left them both and said they will leave all you to Allah. No deviation in aqeeda. Later on though, it developed into the idea that if you say shahada, nothign will happen to you no matter your deeds" - khawarij - accused ali of betraying the amana by allowing men to judge. - jahmia - started doing shirk in the attributes of Allah. eventually, they said Allah is just a meaning, a concept, etc. The head of them was killed on eid al-adha by a prince for saying deviant things about Allah. everybdoy praised him... - mutazila and ashaira - ashaira is an attempt to reconcile between ahl sunna and mutazila - also sufis and other sects. books on aqeeda - imam malik D. 179 he wrote a letter (letter means like long essay) about Qadar to ibn Wahib. - nuaim ibn hammad D.229 wrote 13 letters refuting the suspicions of al-jahmia. - imam ahmad - many books. "kitab al-iman". also, "virtues of the companions". - abdulmalik ibn habeeb al maliki: "virtues of the companions". (why is virtues of the companions an issue of aqeeda? some sects like shia used to insult the companions.) - muhammad ibn aslam attousi D.242. "Ar-rad Alal Jahmiya." - abu bakr ibn abi dawood. D.316 (son of sunan abu dawood author). he composed a poem in the aqeeda "al haia". - imam ad-darimi D.280. (we have his sunan ad-darimi) 2 books."ar-rad allal jahmia" a refutation of the jahmia and also a refutation of a guy who was the head of jahmia - ibn khuzayma - ibn Batta D.387 - al ibana. - scholars of hadith - bukhari, muslim, etc. He mentioned hadiths in the books of tawheed that refute the mutazila and others. nowadays they might tell you only a few people follow this path. - Prophet said "the righteous people are those that follow what I came with and my companions." - People now talk about books of ibn taimiyya and ibn al qayim and mohd ibn abd al wahhab as if they are not correct or dangerous. (sheikh chose a wahhabi book even though he prefers traditional texts to contemporary ones, in order to prove that there is only original stuff in it, he says) - Turkish man - an old man was asked why he came somewhere. He said all he used to do was to caution the people against wahhabis. He was given a book kitab at-tawhid without the cover and read it and said it was great. he was shocked. So what distinguishes the writings of Ahl Sunnah? - greatest feature of the writings is that they base what they write on the Quran and Sunnah, not their desires, opinions, popularity of ideas among the people, etc. - you wont find disagreement among them. they take from teh same source and follow the same path. - compare to writings of the deviant sects. barely any hadiths or ayats are mentioned, sometimes for 50 pages at a time. Major divisions of books of aqeeda. 1. General Writings: includes all chapters of aqeeda. Ash-Sharia by imam ajuri - includes all chapters. Also at-tawheed by ibn khuzayma. 2. Specifi writings about one topic: such as the virtues of the companions, or the dangers of shirk. 3. Rudud (rad = reply) - refuting the suspicions. 4. Writings of the scholars of hadith. 2-5-06 Shirk greatest sin? more horrible than anything else? worshipping something besides Allah. why? its the only sin that's unforgivable. (always be reminded of Tawheed. even Allah reminded Musa with the virtue of tawheed - so also remind people of shirk). "Allah forgives not associating with him, but he forgives other things" sura nisa:78 & 114(find). Also, Allah said "shirk is a great zulm". (find) Remember, some muslims today don't start with tawheed. THey might praise non-muslims like oh they're so good, etc etc. But they are doing shirk so what is good if you are doing these things. "certainly we have sent in every nation a messenger to tell people to worship Allah and avoid taghut (idolatry)." (find) some Muslims even care more about sins like adultery and stealing than shirk. the saying goes "after kufr, there is no sin." So correct your measurement according to the deen. Definition of Shirk. linguistically - to mix and share. "sharika: company" Question: some would say: the shirk that Allah forbade is to make equal an idol or a creater to Allah but if you give the largest portion of your worship to Allah then teh trivial shirk is allowed. So how do you define? Memorize this hadith in Sahih Muslim - "Whoever does something in which he associates with me, that deed is all his." (find the arabic) Definition = diversion of any type of worship to other than Allah. Two Divisions of Shirk - major and minor proof there is such a thing as minor shirk - Prophet (saw) said "the thing I fear most for you is the minor shirk" [Ahmad]. Punishment for major shirk - committing major shirk will admit the person to hellfire forever. Allah "whoever commits shirk, Allah will not forgive him and hellfire is his abode." (find) Punishment for minor shirk - minor shirk is a major sin Major shirk will nullify all your good deeds - sura 5:___ (maybe it's sura zumr:65) (find) q. what if someone says, I worship Allah but I think he has a son - Allah will forgive me because Allah says "Indeed, Allah forgives all sins." (find) - answer is that Allah clearly does not forgive shirk. Difference between major and minor shirk. 1. scholars usually say that whever you read the definite article "ash-shirk" that is major shirk. 2. when the Prophet says something is major or minor 3. if it came unidentified without "al-shirk" and just "shirk", it is minor. 2-11-06 Shirk generally, the consequence is that it causes an eternity in hellfire. "indeed, whoever commits shirk, Allah has forbidden paradise" also, it nullifies their needs. "it was sent down to you and those before you that if you commit shirk, all your deeds will be in vain." minor and major shirk. Define minor shirk - anything that is considered as shirk but does not take you out of the fold of Islam. There isn't a consensus on how to define it. When did shirk start? narrated ibn abbas: "people used to be on tawheed for 10 centuries (generations) until shirk started so Allah sent them to Nuh" sura nuh (wad, suwa, and the other names of the five idols). they were righteous people and when they died, shaytan told the people to make statues to remind them to be righteous. when that generation died, shaytan told the next generation that their ancestors used to worship them. So then Allah sent Nuh. and only the believers remained. Then afterwards, shirk started again but sheihk isn't sure how. He thinks shaytaan used the same idols. Types of shirk. sura 34:22-23 "say call upon other gods whom you besides Allah, they have no power, not the weight of an atom in the heavens or on earth. no share have they therein, nor is any of them a helper to Allah. No intercession can avail in his presence." this aya divides shirk up into 4 types and denies them all: 1- shirk of poessesion (shirk al-itiaz)- "they have not the weight of an atom" 2- shirk of sharing (shirk al-masha')- "no share have they therein" 3- shirk of help (shirk al-e'3ana)- "nor is any of them a helper to Allah. 4- shirk of intercession (shirk al-shifa) other scholars divided shirk into six types: 1- shirk of independence (shirk al-istiqlaad)- proving two independent gods. (like zoroastrian two gods) 2- shirk of splitting (shirk al-tib3eed)- forming god from many gods. (like christian trinity) 3- shirk of means. worshipping other gods to reach to Allah. (pagans of arabia) 4- shirk of imitation. worshipping other than Allah copying the others. (like when the arabs say you want us to worship other than what our fathers did?) 5- shirk in reasons. (shirk al-asbaab) giving the effects to reasons. 6- shirk of purposes (shirk al-agraab) working with impure intention (first five are major shirk, sixth is minor shirk) 2-12-06 Divisions of Shirk (- last class we discussed shirk al-akbar and shirk al-asghar. Today we do further types - we look to the book of Allah to find divisions. doesn't matter how many there are so long as there is evidence.) - Wheter you claim there is no god, whether you say you are god, whether there are 2 equeal gods, or you say there are mini gods, or you say that mediators are required to reach god. All these things are described in Quran. (every time you read Quran, recognize what Allah is talking about. The Quran is the major source of everything. When the Prophet first debated the mushrikeen, he only had the Quran.) 1. people who believe there is no god. where is this addressed in the Quran. quran 52:35 "were they created out of nothing or did they create themselves?" sheikh says what if there was a car dealership on the moon. would people believed it came there from nothign? how can they believe that the sun moon and earth and people came from nothing. 2. people who say they are god. we know that pharoah said it famously (I am your lord the most high). Also 2:258. namrut said to ibrahim in sura baqara "I cause life and death" and he killed a prisoner and ibrahim asked him to bring the sun from the west. can you create anything? bring the sun from the west, create a third eye. 3. people who say there are two gods. Allah says in sura nahl. the person who has two masters. how can he follow both. also, sura muminoon, 23:91. "allah did not beget nor is there any god alongside with him..." also, sura anbia, 21:22 "if there were gods besides Allah surely they would have all been ruined" 4. people who say there is a son of god - Allah says it does not befit the majesty of God to have a son. - "how could Allah have a son without a spouse?" and they say Allah can do what he wants. and Allah responds "then Allah would have chosen what he pleased." - is Jesus human or is he god? did he need food to survive? - 39:4 "he would have chose what he pleases" and also sura maidah about jesus and mary eating food. 5. people who say there is an intermediary - does it mean Allah is not aware of this request. - "say I have nothing, I dont own anything, I cannot cause harm and I cannot benefit myself except by the permission of Allah" - "those who you call upon are slaves like you." - 26:72 "do they hear you who you call upon?" Shirk of christianity how many major types are there? catholics believe in trinity, prostestants sometimes believe that Jesus is the son of God methods of dawah - we should study their religions. 2-18-06 other forms of shirk what is the meaing ifo tama'em? plural of tamema - anything that is hanged on the person to protect him. ruling someone has the neclace with a picture of a wali, he puts this to protect himself. someone puts a Quran or ayat al'kursi to protect them. can you hang it on your chest? can you hang it in your car? sheikh mentions these for discussion sake hadith in tirmidhi "the ruqya wa tameema wa tiwala is shirk(minor)". generally, all tameema is shirk. hadith "whoever hangs a tameema, may Allah not fulfill his intention" generally there are two types of tameema: 1 - from the Quran - two opinions. some say the companions (abdallah ibn amr ibn al as used to do it from sunan abu dawood) wore one so it cannot be bida. other opinion says it's not allowed. 2 - other type - if not from the Quran, it is shirk (minor unless you do it consistently or attribute Allah's power to it) Prophet said "whoever hangs a charm may Allah not fulfill him. and whoever hangs a sea shell may Allah not grant him peace and tranquility" (some say this is daeef) Prophet said "whoever hangs a charm has committed shirk" generally, it is minor shirk. (distinction - muslim with a talisman is not guilty of major shirk. it's not like jahili arabs who used to worship their idols as gods and be afraid of them). read page 51 in book out loud. 2-19-06 Ruqya definition of ruqya - something read to cure the afflicted one. (main difference from tameema is that tameema is for protection i.e. before you get sick. ruqya is for after) hadith "angel gibrael taught the Prophet when you are sick say _______" (dont need to know) what's the ruling of ruqya? using the Quran is allowed. we have hadith abu saeed al-khudri reciting sura fatiha. also Quran is ash-shifa (the cure) all scholars agree that ruqia with Quran is permissible (some scholars said tameema with Quran is not permissible) what about ruqia from poetry? general ruling from hadith "there is nothing wrong with ar-ruqaa as long as it is not shirk" this is the specific exception from the general hadith that says "all ruqya, tameema, tiwala is from ashshirk" 3-11-06 Slaughtering is a type of worship Why don’t we discuss it in fiqh? Slaughtering is an ibada issue: 6:162 “say indeed my prayer and my sacrifice is all for Allah” Sura kauther – so pray to your lord and offer sacrifice. Can you get reward for slaughtering animals? Prophet said “you will be rewarded for every hair on the animal” In class. Reading page 76. Chapter 9. What has been reported concerning slaughtering for other than Allah. Ath-thabh = slaughtering Two main types 1. Slaughtering while making an offering by some name (mentioning name) 2. that a person slaughters in drawing near to what he wishes to draw near to (intent) Four situations: 1. mentioning the name of Allah done for Allah alone. This is on tawhid. Two situations: a. Al-Adha, hajj, aqeeah. 2. (missing?) 3-12-06 Book page 79, chapter 10, page 84 Book chapter 8, page 66 Chapter 11, page 89 Chapter 12, page 91, Chapter 13, page 94. Page 80-81 – hadith about the fly. There is diff of opinion as to whether this hadith is authentic. Is this major shirk or minor shirk? Hadith says they went to hell but not necessarily forever. Also, was there compulsion? Author says no but sheikh thinks they were compelled which is why the sheikh thinks this hadith might be weak – there is some contradiction in it. Page 84 – cannot sacrifice in a place where polytheistic sacrifices were made. People of the book is ok. What about prayer? Can we pray in a place where these polytheists used to pray? Can we pray in a church? 3-18-06 BARAKA What is baraka? Is it like blessing in English? In Arabic, linguistically, baraka means increment – it means like to increase your wealth. We say there is an increase in the good of something – like the food of one feeds more than one – it was increased and therefore baraka. Intro: What is the ruling on the following? 1. someone is seeking blessings from a tree or a stone? 2. someone is seeking blessings from the door of the Prophetic Masjid 3. someone is seeking blessings form the Prophet (saw) 4. someone is seeking blessings from the kaba. Chapter 8, page 66. Note – doing an act of worship so that Allah 3-19-06 Chapter 8, 11,12 3-25-06 Question – hwo do you determine if something is shirk or not? In order to be shirk, it has to be related to worship. Then, it matters what the intention is. Dua What is dua? Supplication – asking a higher power to grant you something good or removing harm. Invocation – Prayer “Dua is the heart of ibada” – weak hadith in tirmidhi but the meaning is good. Dua is worship Also, prophet said that all types of ibada is dua. q- how is sadaqa ibada? By expecting a reward, it becomes like a dua. Sheikh says dua is the highest form of ibada. Virtues of dua: 1 – whether he’ll be granted what he asked for 2 – or he’ll be forgiven 3 – or it’ll prevent harm from it Q – if someone makes dua to a person, is it major shirk? Sheikh says all dua is major shirk since the Prophet said that dua is the highest form of ibada. Aya from the Quran – “the man of his party asked him for help against his foe.” (appealed to him) This aya is talking about musa. Can you ask other than Allah? It depends, in this case, it’s not a form of worship. It’s just asking someone for help – you’re asking someone for something that they’re able to help with. It’s not really dua so it’s not really ibada. You can’t ask people for things that only Allah can give you. Shirk in dua in on page 94. 3-26-06 Dua is the highest form of Tawheed thus turning towards Allah actualizes your tawheed, perfects it even. In principle, asking anything from others is forbidden, yet it’s allowed for necessity. Since people can’t get what they want without it. - ex. When the people gave their pledge to the Prophet, they vowed not to ask other people for things, even when it’s things like tying your shoes. Even for little things like tying your shoes. Don’t ask people, ask Allah. The more you ask Allah the more Allah will love you. Prayer of Forgiveness: The prophet said that if someone said this in the morning and he dies that day, he is forgiven and if he says it in the evening and he dies while asleep, he is forgiven. Also, sheikh lists duas of leaving and entering the house – it protects you Dua for sleeping, etc. Islam, Iman, and Ihsan. In sura hujarat when the Bedouin said “we believed” it says “instead say we submitted” and then something about until the iman enters your heart. Asking others to do dua for you Is it permissible to ask others to do dua for you? Sure What about the Prophet (saw)? He’s dead. In principle this is merely bida because the companions didn’t do it. It could involve shirk if you attribute things to the Prophet that are only for God. Hadith Gibrael (first hadith in sahih muslim) Omar (ra) mentioned his description to show that he wasn’t a traveler and they didn’t know him. This hadith divides the religion into three categories: Islam, Iman, Ihsan. 4-1-06 Pillars of Iman (beginning the book kitab al-iman) Hadith jibrael. In sahih muslim. From ibn omar from omar. What’s the difference between islam and iman? When they are together, they are together, when they are not , they fall apart. Disbeliever. No Islam and No iman Muslim. Yes Islam and Maybe iman. Ayah “and they say we had faith. Allah says no don’t say you have faith, say you submitted.” “one day we were sitting in the company of the Prophet (saw) when there appeared before us a man dressed in pure white clothes, etc etc. He sat before the Prophet and asked him about Islam. The Prophet said al-islam is to testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Mohd is his Prophet. “ (If he didn’t think Islam and Iman were different, he wouldn’t have asked.) He said “inform me about Iman (faith). He replied: that you affirm your faith in Allah, in His angels, in His books, in His Prophets, In the Day of Judgment, and you affirm your faith in the Divine Decree about good and evil.” So six things. Why not more or less? Hadith in bukhari says iman is 60 branches. If you deny the angels, you’re kafir. If you deny djinn, you’re kafir, so why aren’t they in this list? The list is like.. important stuff: 4:136 “Oh you who believe: Believe in Allah, And his Messenger, And the scripture which he hath sent to his messenger, And the scripture which he sent to those before him, Any who denieth Allah his angels, his books, his messengers, and the day of judgment, hath gone far, far astray” The ayah lists five things (missing decree) so sheikh doesn’t mind if you say 5 or 6. So all of these are the essences (pillars) of iman as opposed to the branches. So also, there are hadiths that say things like “you don’t believe until you wish for your brother what you wish for yourself.” How does that implicate your iman? It detracts from the perfection of Iman. 4-02-06 Definition of Iman Is it enough for iman to remain in the heart or must it manifest in action? The limbs, the tongue, the heart. If I believe in my heart, I believe, isn’t that iman, isn’t that enough? If you say that all that is required is belief of the heart, that is the belief of the jahmiya, one of the most deviant sects of Islam. By that rationale, even abu talib would be considered a muslim since he actually believed in the prophet (saw) and in God but he refused to take shahada. And if someone said with their tongue but didn’t believe, they’re like the hypocrites. Remember that guy who used to be a poet and was expecting the Prophethood to come to him, and when Mohammad came, he disbelieved. The Prophet said, his poetry believed but his heart disbelieved. Is it enough that someone says they believe and believes, but does nothing? No, by consensus, all scholars of islam say that there must be action. Some kind of action. Very ver few people have absolutely no action. A lot of people never pray but they’ll kill a goat on eid. Definition is “iman is sayings and actions that increases and decreases.” Does iman really increase and decrease? Isn’t it just the case that you believe, and that’s it? Are you more certain that the sky is blue if you continue to see it day after day or is it just that it’s blue and that’s it. Answer: sahaba were complaining to the Prophet that when they are with him, their iman is high and when they leave him, their iman goes down. The Prophet explained to them it was ok. Also, the hadith that iman is 60 branches and the highest of which is xyz and the lowest of which is xyz. (so they are not equal.) Some people that say iman does not increase or decrease use a few proofs. Prophet said “iman and kufr does not meet together.” Also, either you believe or you don’t. Also, six pillars of iman, if one of them goes, no more iman, therefore iman is one thing. Refute this: Surah baqara – story of ibrahim asking God to reassure his faith Surah anfal in the beginning, Allah says the believers are people who when their lord is mentioned, they hearts tremor and their faith is strengthened. Also, sura nisa. Many ayat in Quran actually. So what about when they say “fine, maybe iman increases, but it doesn’t decrease.” Answer: when you sin, it’s like a black mark on your heart and if you continue to sin, more spots. Also, “iman wears out within yourselves as clothes wear out so renew your iman.” – al hakim and at-tabarani. What’s the fruit? The point is that a lot of muslims today say they don’t have to do a lot 1 – what is the point of ibada if iman does not increase or decrease 2 – everybody will enter jana, don’t tire yourself in worship 3 – if iman doesn’t increase or decrease then whoever commits a violation is a non believer. 4-8-06 Pillars of Iman I. Belief in Allah      Allah Meaning of Allah? In Arabic, two opinions - nobody has had this name before. This is in sura 19:65 “Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between te, so worship Him and be constant and patient in his worship. Do you know anybody who is similar to him (has his name)?” 1. some people say that Allah is derived from ala ibada, meaning “the one who is worshipped” 2. some people said it is not derived from anything in particular. It is its own word. Who is Allah? Homework, 10-15 lines, describe Allah. 30:40 (sura room, the whole thing is talking about the greatness of Allah.) “Allah is he who created you, Then provided for you Then will cause you to die, Then he will give you life If there any of your so called partners that do anything of that? Glory be to Him” 59:23-25 Sura an-nahl 16 2:255 (if you recite ayah kursi after every salat, the only thing separating you from paradise is death) II. Belief in Mala’ika Mala’ika from maalika from oolaka which is like risala. Or it’s also from malik, which is taking with strength. “Allah chooses messengers from angels and from human beings.” Surah hajj Definition of Mala’ikah. To know, admit and be sure that he is existed and he’s the creator of everything He’s the only one who deserve to be worshipped, to Him belong the most beautiful names. (mentioned all 3 types of tawheed). He has no partner or rival To apply this in action In Arabic, they say something that means like “nice creatures that inhabit the heavens and can assume any shape they want” – kind of hard to define. There’s a general belief and detailed belief. Did Allah create Angels to help him? this is kind of an inappropriate question. Allah does not need the angels. Many ayat about the belief in Angels. 4:136 “… and whoever does not believe in the angels has gone far astray” 2:285. Last two ayat of sura baqara. “and they believe in the angels…” Difference among angels. Allah chooses messengers from the angels. Dua: “Oh Lord of Jibreel, Israfeel, and Mikael, who knows all things. Etc. etc. so guide me” Why did the prophet mention these three? - Jibraeel brings the wahi so our spiritual life, israfeel brings the trumpet for the day of judgment so he is responsible for our life on the day of judgment in a way, mikael is responsible for provision on earth like rain, etc. - Angel of death? One or more than one? 6:61. “when death approaches one of you, our angel(s) take his soul, and they never fail in their duty” 32:11 “say, the Angel of Death, put in charge of you, will duly take your souls.” There is one angel that takes your soul, and then there are lots of angels that shuffle them around afterwards. The Angel of Death came to Musa and Musa punched him and the angel said to Allah “one of your servants does not want to die” Allah said “say to him to stretch his hand His name is the angel of death. Some people called him “isra’eel” but some scholars said this is bida. Ibn kathir mentions a very weak narration that gives this name. - Angels of Hellfire Their number: 19, whether 19 or 1900 or 19 million. The ayah said “ala tisa t 4 billion, 900 million angels are dragging the chains to bring hellfire. The hadith in sahih muslim says 70k angels on each of 70k chains binging hellfire. - The angels of al bait al mamour - Raqeeb and ateed. You have 2 for each person who record the deeds. - Angels of protection – in sura rad. Angels are there to protect you. - Angels of heavens. In every small space of heaven, there is an angel prostrating. - Sura an-naziat: 79:1-5. descriptions of different types of angels. Their description: - Greatness: Jibreel has 600 wings - Wings. All angels have wings. Allah is the creator of the angels with wings. - The carriers of the throne: 8 angels whether 800 or 8 million. The Prophet described one of them who is so big that between his earlobe to his shoulder the distance of 700 years. - “they are disturbed by what disturbs the son of Adam” - like eating garlic and onions. - They can have whatever shape they want. Gibreel came in the shape of a man (the shape of yahya al kalbi) - They have no gender. What’s the advantage of belief in Angels?  you know the greatness of Allah  Getting rid of arrogance  Following the angels in their worship and in their organization. 4-9-06 Belief in Books of Allah - How many books did Allah send? Weak hadith says 104. only 5 mentioned in Quran - He mentioned five books in Quran: Torah, Injeel, az-zabur, Al-Quran, and also scrolls of ibrahim (in the last ayah of sura Ala. But he also mentioned that Musa had them – is this the torah or something else?) - Az-zabur – “and certainly we have given Dawood the zabur” Torah “indeed we have revealed the torah, in it is guidance and light” sura ma’ida Injeel “we have given him the injeel as musadiqa torah” surah ma’ida Quran 7:1-2 - To believe that these books originally are the word of Allah. - It is not permissible to read the Torah or the injeel, etc. seeking guidance . Once Omar did and the Prophet (saw) became angry with him and said “if Musa were alive today, he would have no choice but to follow me.” Anything that can be found in the bible or torah that was good for us. can be found in the Quran. It was all changed or disappeared except for Quran. - To Believe that the Quran is dominant over all other books - To believe that the Quran abrogates previous books. Qualties of the Quran - By itself, it’s a miracle – the language, etc. the other books are miracles, but not by themselves - It’s preserved. - It’s a book for all mankind. - The language is the same. The other books are written in other ways Define Quran – the Book of Allah given to Muhammad, miraculous Fruits of Believing in the books - guidance - shows you the mercy of Allah - shows you the justice of Allah - Happiness in this life and the hereafter because you get the reward. Bible and Transmission 4-15-06, 4-16-06 = test 4-22-06 1st=Allah, 2nd=angels, 3rd=books 4th pillar of Iman – belief in the messengers and prophets of Allah. Proof is in hadith gibreel. Definition of Nabi and Rasul. Nabi, linguistically, from naba like sura naba meaning great news. Also, it means elevation, meaning famous. Rasul, linguistically, from risala meaning message. Hadith when the Prophet was aksed how many prophets he said “124,000” and when he asked how many messengers from them “315.” Messenger is a prophet commanded to deliver a message to his people. While a Prophet is not commanded to deliver a new message to his people. He is simply inspired by Allah and Allah reveals to him. Ibn taimiya mentioned a stronger opinion. A messenger is given a new law whereas a prophet is simply given the same law as before him. (sheikh considers this opinion to be stronger) (notice that it has nothing to do with whether they have book or not. How many Prophets mentioned in the Quran? Name them for the oral exam! Why believe in the Messengers? Besides the Quran saying that you have to in order to be a believer. - it teaches us the Mercy of Allah that nobody is punished without a chance - if you believe in the message, you have to believe in the one who brought it. It’s like disbelieving in everything else. It’s the essence of religion. The Mission of the Messengers. Articles of belief in the messengers – we don’t know them all or their messages, but it’s not necessary, you just believe that they existed. 1 – to believe in them all 2 – to believe that they are the best human beings (if someone thought they were better, they should be chosen to be a prophet. Also, Allah says that he has preferred the Prophets) 3 – to believe their message is all basically the same – “every nation has been sent a messenger saying la ilaha illallah” 4 – to believe that they delivered the message perfectly. If you don’t believe in that, there is a suspicion that we don’t have the perfect religion. 5 – to love them and honor them. Love is the real belief. 6 – to believe that they are humans not gods or semi gods. The Prophets are not angels like the kuffar wanted – Allah said that if he sent an angel, nobody would have believed. 7 – to believe that some prophets are better, like Mohd (saw). Evidence is that in isra miraj that prophets are in different levels. The order goes Mohd, Ibrahim, Musa, then difference of opinion whether nuh or isa (notice that even though isa is in the second heaven, he is still alive and can raise higher). 8 - to believe that Allah sent one to every nation. “and I sent one to every nation” Prophets Protected against sins They are protected against major sins and also persisting on minor sins. They did make some things that are supposedly sinful but they were not really sins if you examine them and also they were forgiven. Evidences of the Prophethood claims to be a prophet, confirms what came before him, etc. 4-23-06 4th pillar continued. Belief in the messengers and prophets of Allah. Could a Prophet or Messenger be a woman? Ayah “we have not sent before you, except as men.” – (in sura yusuf last page, also nahl, also anbiya first page). Is Maryam a Prophet? The Quran said about isa “he is only a messenger like other messengers before him, and his mother was siddiqun.” Why wouldn’t Allah send women as prophets? Perhaps women are too emotional to handle it. Men might not follow men. Also, the nature of receiving prophethood. Evidences that Muhammad was a Prophet (saw). 1. the Quran is a miracle. Also, it is still with us whereas miracles of past prophets are not with us today. 2. Other miracles. - he came with what other Prophets came with - the books before him mention him coming. 3. His character – the disbelievers testify to his character before the believers. 4. His description. 5. His face looks like the face of a Messenger – abd as-salam, a rabbi in medina said “I saw the face of a messenger, verily it’s not the face of a liar.” 6. The testimony of the kuffar “ * abu jahl said I know he is a messenger. * the testimony of Ceaser – abu sufyan was in damascas and he was taken to ceasar (hiraql) by the soldiers. Abu Sufyan thought this was his chance to defame the Prophet (saw). Ceasar, heraclius. Ceasar asked him – “is he from the lineage of kings. No. did he lie before he became a prophet? No. did you guys fight? Yes, sometimes we win, sometimes he wins. Does anybody leave him after believing? No. Who are his followers? The weak and the needy. Ceasar said “he is a true messenger, and he will own the ground I stand on.” At that time, a priest gave shahada right away and was instantly killed by the soldiers around him. Ceasar said he wanted to believe, but he didn’t want to be killed. The Prophet (saw) said he preferred his kingdom in this life. 7. Future events –  ayah that said Rome will be defeated.  Prediction about the Khilafa “it will remain for 40 years and then be a kingship.”  Also, adeeb ibn hatim was Christian and came to the Prophet and the Prophet asked him “what keeps you from Islam? Do you think we are poor? Verily the treasures of Kisra will be brought before the Muslims. Adeeb said “same kisra?” and P said “yes, that kisra. Also, if you live long enough, you will see a woman make hajj from Iraq fearing nobody but Allah.” And adeeb said it happened. And adeeb said one more thing he said I haven’t seen, but wallhi it will happen. He said you will see Arabia full of gardens with water running through. (and it’s happening). *** do Prophets know the unseen if they can predict the future? No, they only know what they get from wahi. Clear ayah in the Quran for that “nobody on the heavens and the earth knows the future except Allah.” Sura nabi. Unfortunately, there is a chapter in al-kafi (the most authentic hadith book of the shias) about how their imams know the past and the future and what will not happen. Prophet said “I cannot benefit or harm myself except what Allah wills and had I knew the unseen I would have increased from the good things and nobody would harm me.” (sura araf – second page from the end). Is there any Prophet (saw) after Mohammad? No, sura ahzab “Khatam an-nabiyeen” – 2 qira’a, one says final of the prophets and one says seal of the prophets. Isn’t there a need for a Prophet (saw) now, the world is crazy? No, we have the Quran. The Prophet (saw) said that “if musa were alive, he’d have no choice by to follow me.” 4-29-06 (sheikh was absent for this – this is group project) Articles of this pillar of faith Belief in the day of judgment includes three major things: 1) resurrection 2) what will happen on the day of judgment 3) paradise and hellfire In addition to these three things, there are two more things: 1) signs of the day of judgment 2) death of the person himself which includes a) death and the last moments. b) Barzakh – punishment of the grave Importance of belief in the day of judgement. why we find iman on the DOJ assocated with the iman of Allah? 1) doj is something unseen and belief in Allah is something unseen. 2) If you don’t believe in the doj then it’s like you’re not believing in Allah. Names of the Day of Judgment 1) the day of blow (blowing of the trumpet) *(this should not be here since the DoJ begins after the trumpet is blown) 2) the day of reckoning (yom al-hisab) 3) the day of repay (yom ad-deen) 4) the final day (yom al-akhir) 5) the day of resurrection (yom al-ba3th)(taghabut – means loss) 6) the day deprivation (yom al-hashr) 7) the day of assembly 8) the day of summoning (yom al-tanaad) why so many names? There’s a lot of things going on, also because it’s important – when something is important, it has a lot of names, like Allah. Evidences of belief in the day of judgment Iblees himself believes in the day of judgment. 1) physical evidences: people who died before and were resurrected (the people of the cave, the one who was murdered) 2) God’s creation (it was done once, it can be done again) 3) creating the bigger necessitates creating the smaller 4) reviving the dry land. (God gave this example “look at the dry land, there is nothing, no sign of life, when the rain comes, the plants will come) Signs of the Final Hour Does anyone know when is the final hour? 2022? 1999? Allah says in Quran last page of sura ahzab “knowledge of the last hour is with Allah” Scholars divided the signs of the final hour to two types: 1) major signs 2) minor signs difference is that minor signs is reminding people of the final hour while major sign is indicating the approaching of the final hour. Minor signs Of these signs: Things that happened in the past Things that happened and still happening Things will happen soon 1) Prophethood of Mohd (saw) 2) The death of the Messenger (saw) (my death and the opening of jerusalem) 3) The fight between Ali and Muawiyah “the hour will not come until two groups from my ummah fight each other even though they have the same message.” 4) The liars “the thirty liars come, all of them claiming prophethood.” 5) The Fire (not come until there will be a great fire that the people of Damascus will see. It happened in 665H. there was a fire in masjid an-nabi, also burning the pulpit of the messenger (saw) which was preserved all these years. People in busra, 100 miles south of Damascus, saw it.) 6) To give birth to your master. (2 interpretations, the daughter will command the mother. Second, in the times of jihad, when the muslims were strong, a soldier could take a slave girl and then she gives birth to a free child who could own her mother.) 7) High buildings. 8) Dominance of ignorance and loss of knowledge. (we have science, but no religious knowledge) 9) Excessive killing 10) Spread of adultery. 11) Women outnumbering men (the prophet said for each man, there will be 50 women) 12) Drinking alcohol and changing its name (in arab countries they call it spirits) 13) Earthquakes 14) Marketplaces and malls 15) Fitna that enters every single house (prophet said in general, there will be a lot of fitna) 05-06-06 05/06/06 Saturday Aqeedah Major Signs of DOJ Descending of Isa bin Maryam and Dajjaal When does he come down? Where? What will happen exactly? Mahdi, then Dajjal & Isa, then Yajooj & Ma‟jooj. This is what we know. Why did Allah SWT chose Isa to come down towards end of time? Some religions (e.g. Judaism) believed that they killed him, Christians gave him higher status that a messenger. Isa AS didn‟t die initially. He is currently in the heavens. Correct opinion is Isa AS didn‟t die when he was put on cross. Allah said “they did not kill him”, „they did not crucify him, but it appeared to them like it”. We believe Isa AS is not dead, he is alive in heavens. Muhammad SAW saw Isa AS on second heaven alive. He will come when the Muslims are cornered towards the end of time. He will be sent in east of Damascus near a masjid with white minaret. At the time of messenger SAW, Damascus was under Christian control. Most scholars said it is the masjid Ummayyid. One of the largest masjids in the world at this time. Isa will be sent at the time of the prayer‟s Iqama. Imam will be Mahdi. Isa AS will pray with people. And then he will take the leadership of the Muslim Ummah. He will kill the pig and break the cross i.e. he will not accept Chirstianity, he will not accept Jizyah i.e tax as Christians do it now. He will rule according to Islam. Messenger SAW said that would be the best day when Isa comes down, because Muslims will be led by Isa and there won‟t be any other religion existing. Isa will kill Dajjaal in Ludd (Palestine). Currently, Palestine‟s airport is built there. 70000 jews from Iran will follow Dajjaal (from city of Asfahan). The battle would be between Muslims and Jews. Hadith of messenger in Muslim say the jews will hide behind trees, and the trees would say “there is a jew behind me, come kill him”. After death of Dajjaal, all trials are over. The earth would be safe. Justice would be perfect. Then, Allah will inspire Isa that people came out that none can fight. Isa will go to Jabal Toor (in Sina). Gog and Maggog (humans) will then appear. Lots of hadiths about this, some are not authentic. ZulQarnian has trapped them behind a wall (he built the wall). Messenger saw dream, and said a hole in the wall has been made, so end of time is approaching. The Mag and Maggog will be in huge numbers – they will not die until they see 1000 of their offsprings (one hadith). They will drink a lot of water, and dry up a lake. They will first kill people, then send arrows in the sky to attempt to kill Allah SWT. Then Allah will punish them and kill them. There would be dead bodies everywhere. The smooth wind: A smooth wind will take the soul of every believer. Smoke: Hadith “Final hour will not come unless 10 signs appear, first of them is the smoke”. The smoke will be very harmful to the non-Believers, but not to the believers. See beginning of Surah Dukhan (Smoke). 1. Ha-Mim. 2. By the Book that makes things clear;3. We sent it down during a Blessed night: for we (ever) wish to warn (against evil). 4. In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of Wisdom, 5. By command, from Our Presence. for we (ever) send (revelations), 6. As Mercy from Thy Lord: for He hears and knows (All things); 7. The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured Faith. 8. There is no god but He: it is He who gives life and gives death,- the Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 9. Yet They play about In doubt. 10. Then watch Thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 11. Enveloping the people: This will be a penalty grievous. 12. (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 13. How shall the Message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,14. Yet They turn away from Him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 15. We shall indeed remove the penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 16. One Day we shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: we will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 17. We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them an apostle Most Honourable, 18. Saying: "Restore to me the servants of Allah. I am to you an apostle worthy of all trust; 19. "And be not arrogant As against Allah. for I come to you with authority manifest. 20. "For me, I have sought safety with My Lord and your Lord, against your injuring Me. Three Huge earthquakes: one in the east, one in the west, one in the Arabian peninsula. We believe in what messenger SAW said, cannot extrapolate. Sun rising from the west. All scientists agree this will happen. Messenger SAW said this 1400 years ago. The core of earth is liquid, continuously moving, it makes the earth rotate. One day it will stop, so sun won‟t come from the east any more. Repentence will not be accepted once the sun rises from the west. This will happen after Isa‟s time. The Dabbah (the Animal). People will flee from this animal, they will be scared. The animal will stamp everyone – believer or non-believer. The animal talks to people. People will still be living after the animal vanishes. Last sign: Fire from Yemen. It walks with people, gathering them towards to judgment. No single believer on earth after the final hour comes. Corruption will peak just before the end of time. People will fornicate openly during this time. Destruction from Ka‟ba: Ka‟ba will be destroyed by a man from Abyssinia. Ka‟ba will be destroyed after it‟s own people (ie Muslims) will violate it‟s sanctity, ie fight inside the Ka‟ba. 05-07-06 Death When you die, the day of judgement begins and you cannot do anything to increase your deeds (with those specific exceptions) Is there anybody in the world who denies death? No, all people agree. People experience it and see it so they believe in it. Why discuss it? Ibn omar said “work for your life as if you will life forever, and work for your death as if you are dying tomorrow.” When you believe in death and know that it may come anytime then you will prepare yourself by avoiding sinning. The Prophet (saw) said “keep mentioning death.” *Death is the minor judgment for the human being* Why is that? The punishment of the grave. Does the soul die or only the body? “They ask you about the soul? Say this matter is from Allah.” – the soul does not die, it is from Allah. How many times the human being died and lived? There are two ayahs. First is the kuffar saying “you lived and died twice.” The other one is saying “when you were dead..” but the scholars agree that it doesn’t mean you were dead, it means you were not created yet. but there is only one death. Death comes life. After that, there will be no more death. Is there a punishment of the grave? Muslims believe in the punishment of the grave because of authentic hadiths and there is an ayah that talks about punishing the people of pharaoh day and night and then when the last hour comes, through them into the hellfire. So this day and night means punishment in the grave. Ayah: sura ghafir. Also in sura mumin Another ayah: “and they have a lower punishment before that” The Prophet (saw) said “the first moment of justice is when you die.” Great hadith Musnad imam ahmad – sahih. al bara ibn azib said : “we went out with the Prophet of Allah saw accompanying the janza of a man of the ansar. When we reached his grave, it was not yet dug, so the Prophet saw sat down and we also sat down around him as if birds were over our heads. He had in his had a stick by which he was scratching the ground. He then reaised his head and said: “seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of the grave.” He said it twice or thrice. “If the slave is in devotion to worship then his soul will be taken smoothly by angels.” (sheikh said if the man’s mind is devoted, then the angels shrouds him and takes his soul throughout heaven and the angels ask who is this soul that has such a nice smell. And then the angel brings him down and opens his grave.) Two angels will come to him, make him situp, and ask him”Who is your Lord?” he will reply: “my lord is Allah”they will ask him “what is your religion” he will reply “my religion is Islam. Then they will ask “who make you aware of this?” He will reply : “I read Allah’s book, believed in it, and considered it true.” Wich is verirfied by Allah’s word “Allah establishes those who believe with the word that stnands firm in this world and the next.” (Sheikh says that don’t think this is easy. It’s like when a car jumps out at you, you still slam on the brakes knowing you will skid. You never know what will happen to you. Only the mercy of God will help you.) “my slave has spoken the truth so spread a bed for him form paradise close him in paradise and open a doroor for him into paradse. He also metioned the death of the kaifir, saying “his spirit will be restored to his body, two angels will come to him, make him sit up and ask him: “who is your Lord?” He will reply: Alas alas I do not know.” They will ask him what is yoru religion? “alas alas I do not know” and then they will ask “ who is the man who was sent on a mission among you? And he will say the same thing. Then a crier will say “this man has lied so open a door to hell.” Then some of its heat and pestilential wind will come to him and his grave will become restricted so his ribs will be pressed together. One who is blind and dumb will then be placed in charge of him having a sledge hammer such that if a mountain were struck with it, it would become dust. He will give him a blow with it which will be heard by everything between east and west except by men and jinn, and he will become dust. Then his spirit will be restored to him. (dawood, musnda imam ahmad, bayhaqi, and others) Stages of the soul and body There are five different levels of lives between soul and body: 1- before birth, the soul is totally separated from the bdoy. The angel takes it from Allah and places it in the human. 2- In this life – the soul is in the body, this is why you can speak, hear, see. 3- While sleeping – this is like death because there is some kind of separation, even though the soul is still in the body. 4- After death, your soul departs. So this is different from sleep. 5- After resurrection. Your soul will be attached to your body forever.
