Plot
Defined: The sequence of events in a literary work.
Components:
   1.   Exposition
   2.   Inciting incident
   3.   Rising action
   4.   Climax
   5.   Falling action
   6.   Denouement - resolution
Plot
 Exposition: introduces setting, characters and the
  basic situation

 Inciting Incident: introduces the conflict

 Rising action: events leading to the climax

 Climax: the high point of interest or suspense

 Falling action: characters recovering from climax

 Denouement: resolution where the conflict is
  solved

Foreshadowing
Defined: use of clues in a literary work to suggest events
 that have yet to occur. Creates suspense, builds tension
 and causes reader to wonder about what will happen
 next.

 Foreshadowing is used in “The Monkey’s Paw” to
  build tension throughout the rising action and
  climax.
  Be on the lookout for clues!
Cause and Effect
 Effect: what happened         Light switch: light turns

 Cause: the reason
  something happens             Gas: I am stranded on the

 Examples:
