					EMCal Cabling Update
• We are requested to prepare all cables to CalFrame, and on CalFrame, prior to installation of CalFrame in ALICE (June). • We have ordered ~all cables and connectors necessary for this purpose:
– ~12000 CHF for cables and connectors – ~16000+3780 CHF for 95mm2 LV cables – ~18500 CHF for cable trays and LV distribution panels

• We have ~500 cables in ALICE DCDB that need to be made/labeled/installed in April/May. • When complete the SM installation becomes “easy”. All remaining service connections are at SM Electronics crate with the exception of LED fibers which must be run from SM to LED drivers. • Details of Cable Specifications and Orders can be seen at:

• LV Cables:
– 95mm2 cables to CalFrame to be installed by CERN – 95mm2 and 35mm2 cables between Patch Panels on CalFrame to be installed by CERN – LV sense wires to CalFrame to be installed by CERN – LV multi-wire sense wires on CalFrame prepared by EMCal, installed by CERN with LV – 48 FEE: 8-wire multi-contact cables (est. 1-2 weeks) – 36 TRU: 5-wire multi-contact cables (est. 1 week) – 24 RCU: 3-wire multi-contact cables (est. 1 week) Note: LV, sense, FEE, TRU, RCU all different connector types

• HV Cables:
– Four 37-wire HV cables to CalFrame to be installed by CERN with connectors. – Four HV patch Panel from 37-wire bulk connector to single wire HV LEMO connector to be built by CERN – 48 FEE HV: 2 LEMO connectors per cable

• Fiber Optic Cables:
– TTC fibers to two patch panels with TTOC16 by DAQ – DDL fibers to two patch panels by DAQ group – 25 TTC fibers on EMCal from DAQ group, installed by EMCal – 25 DDL fibers on EMCal from DAQ group, installed by EMCal

• Ethernet Cables:
– 26 Ethernet cables from O12 to CalFrame made by EMCal, installed by EMCal (or CERN). – Two Ethernet patch panels prepared by CERN (must replace steel mount plate) – 25 Ethernet cables to RCU with RJ45 connector on patch panel and “special” connector at RCU (est. <1 week)

• Trigger cables:
– 36 CAT7 cables with ethernet (RJ45) connectors at each end (as short as possible) for TRU-STU – 5 L0,L1 with special LVDS cables with LEMO connectors prepared and installed from STU to CTP by EMCal(?) – 2 LED trigger cables with LEMO connectors prepared and installed from CTP to LED drivers by EMCal(?)

Details of Cable Plant
• ELMB (=Slow control - Temp monitoring):
– CAN Bus cable from CR3 to CalFrame by DCS group – CAN Bus cable from A to C side and between ELMB mother boards by DCS group – 4 ELMB mother boards with ADC chips provided by DCS group – ELMBs and CAN Bus cables installed by DAQ group – 12 34-wire flat ribbon cables with connectors prepared by EMCal group. (est. ~1 day)

• Installation
– Installation of all cables (except LV) on CalFrame by CalFrame by EMCal group. Working at heights (~10m). (Est. ~1 week)

• Database
– All Details have been developed in spreadsheets (see web link) which have been “cleansed” for automatic input to DCDB where cables and node-names are defined. – Used to produce cable labels – Used to schedule cable installations by CERN group

Details of Cable Plant
• Installation plan
– All cables (some exceptions) are at CERN. – All connectors (some exceptions) are ordered and expected to be at CERN within the next week or so. – Propose that someone with technical expertise to make cables come to CERN for few days and attempt to make at least one of each cable/connector type to insure that all parts are correct and to estimate time necessary to make all cables. – Then schedule one or two later visits to make all cables, and then to install all cables. Installation must wait until CalFrame is at CERN, weight test is performed, and cable trays are installed. – Cable installation by EMCal can probably be done in parallel to LV cable installation since in different cable trays and can work on A or C side.

Temperature Readout
• By fiat, we’ve decided to use one 16-Channel ADC ELMB group per SM. One 34-wire flat ribbon cable. • Two types of temperature sensors - 2-wire and 4-wire that require 1 or 2 ADC channels each, respectively. The 4-wire allows a reference loop subtraction for better stability/reliability. • Propose that the ELMB for each SM be configured with 2 4-wire sensors and 12 2-wire sensors. • Use 2 2-wire sensors in opposite corners of FEE crate • Use 10 2-wire sensors to distribute across SM to measure temperature field. • Use 2 4-wire sensors on SM to insure stability of overall temperature scale.

EMCal FEE Crate
• Electronic:
– Once T-card is finalized need to layout IPCB and GTL bus (A and B) for EMCal FEE card spacing - Nantes? – Should produce all IPCBs and GTL buses ASAP. Should use new T-cards, IPCB, and GTL for next test beam. Also use them for APD/FEE test stations.

• Mechanical:
– Need final design of FEE crate structure and enclosure/door – Cooling manifold and cooling plates – IPCB support, FEE card rails.

EMCal FEE Installation in ALICE
Totals/SuperModule: • 4 FEE crates x 9 cards. Each with a GTL bus (A or B flavor) - each with LV and HV • 3 TRUs - each with LV, LVDS, and fiber optic trigger outputs • 2 RCUs - each with LV, TTC, L0, DDL, ethernet

• Readout of a Super Module of 24x48 towers will be grouped in 4 crates of 24x12 towers on a single GTL bus with 9 FEE cards, but 3 TRUs.

EMCal LV Power Supplies
• EMCal LV in Rack O12 • Rack also includes 2 EMCal ethernet hubs for distribution to RCUs • Two “flavors” of Wiener Low Voltage Power supplies – 3x Wiener OM.21.004, 0-8V up to – 1x Wiener OM.21.001, 0-15V up to 25A – 4x 6U Wiener LV bins

• We need at least 1 of each + 2 bins for first 3 SMs (~25kCHF) if SMs on same side. If SMs on opposite sides then as well to order full LV system (~50kCHF) • LV patch panel at Power Supplies needs to be finalized.

EMCal HV
• EMCal HV rack CR4-Y10 shared with PHOS • ISEG HV supply crate with CAN Controller (5.4kCHF). Use ISGG EHQ84 05p-156F module - 8 channels/module (3.7kCHF each). • Require one HV channel per FEE crate - 4 per SM for total of 44 HV channels: Requires 6 ISEG modules (48 HV channels). • Should purchase crate + 1 module soon, i.e for test beam (~9kCHF) • Use same HV supply for LED driver • Two bulk HV cables - one per side. CERN stock 56-wire = 28 HV per side. ERNI connector. • Need to finalize patch panels at Rack (ISEGERNI) and CalFrame (ERNI-LEMO). • HV distributed on LEMO cables on CalFrame (CERN stock)

• TriggerTimingControl and DDL fibers and Patch Panels at CalFrame done by DAQ group. • TTC fibers to each RCU using TTCOC16 passive splitter modules on A and C side (1kCHF each). • DDL fibers from CR1 to EMCal patch panel by DAQ group. DDL fiber to/from each RCU. • Pre-pulse NIM signal from CTP available for LED calibration pulse. • Fibers for TRUs to Jet Patch trigger board? • LVDS cable from Jet trigger to CTP.
