               Education and training infrastructures
  for building and maintaining national competence in radiation,
                     transport and waste safety,
                  are in place in Member States,
              consistent with IAEA safety standards

§ Objectives



  •   To strengthen radiation, transport and waste safety infrastructures
      through building competence in Member States (MS)

  •   To facilitate the development and implementation of a national strategy
      for E&T in radiation, transport and waste safety in MS

  •   To ensure that E&T programmes in MS address the requirements of the
      IAEA safety standards.

Outcome     •    Increased expertise in radiation safety consistent with BSS

            •    Participating MS have developed a National Strategy for E&T in radiation safety in
                 line with the IAEA Strategic Approach



Output      •     MS are familiarized with the IAEA concept of National Strategy for E&T in
                  radiation safety

            •     Competent bodies have agreed to a procedure for developing, endorsing and
                  implementing an E&T strategy in radiation safety, and National E&T strategy
                  drafted.

            •     Compliance of E&T infrastructure in radiation protection assessed

            •     Information in RASIMS updated

            •     Radiation protection experts trained and educated in relevant IAEA Safety
                  Standards (including the new BSS)

    −‘Action Plan’ to establish a national strategy (Annex II – New!)
    −Summary of main IAEA requirements and recommendations on E&T in radiation protection
    and safety (ANNEX III – New!)




§ Identification of areas where the national regulatory framework for education
   and training in radiation safety needs to be improved
    −Clarifications on terminology, role and functions of personnel with main responsibilities in
    radiation protection (Radiation Protection Officer, Qualified Expert)
