									                             Personal Finance: Mrs. Smith
               Career & Tech Ed/Family & Consumer Science/MHS
Room D110; Office D103; Phone (425) 431-6478; Email: smithc@edmonds.wednet.edu
    Website: http://TeacherWeb.com/WA/MeadowdaleHighSchool/CLSmith or,
                             Classroom Policies and Expectations

Required Daily Materials/Resources:
 Skyward, Moodle, WOIS Usernames and Passwords
 Your Digital Locker from school and from home to upload and download materials. Access
from home is through WebTrekker – it is your responsibility to test your system.
 A 3-ring binder or folder titled “Personal Finance” for papers and hard copy materials

                                Attendance/Make-Up Work
Tardy Policy (see MDH Handbook for complete building-wide policy)
 Tardy beyond 10 minutes is considered an absence per building policy.
 Students chronically tardy first receive a verbal warning, then are assigned make-up time in
Tutorial/AT, parents are contacted. Non-compliance results in administrative referral.

Making Up Missed Work (due to excused absence)
 If absent on day an assignment was given, it is due 1 week from day of the absence.
 If present when assignment was given but absent on due date, work is due the following class
       session.
 Check Mrs. Smith’s MDH Website for a information on what was assigned when you were absent.
 Check “Moodle” on-line or my website before you return to see what you missed.
Do as much as you can before returning. Most assignments are available in Moodle 24/7, hard
copies may be on my website or in the absent drawer in the classroom.
 If the assignment in Moodle has been closed, print and turn in a hard copy.

Late Work Policy (not due to absence)
DAILY assignments are not accepted late!!!!:
 Adequate time will always be given to complete work. Assignments are to be turned in
during the class period they are assigned or by the due date and time stated. The assignment
will be closed for submission to Moodle at that time. Being on-task in class is essential.
      
Late Major assignments or packets (teacher will announce when this policy applies):
 10% subtracted daily (includes ALL days school is in session, not just Personal Finance days).
      
Achievement Time: Students will need to stay for AT time if 1) earning below a “C” grade 2) the
day’s work has not been submitted

                                        What is my grade?
Student grades are based on daily assignments, major unit packets/projects, group work, quizzes/tests
and daily participation. They will be calculated on a traditional scale of:
       93-100% = A 83-87% = B 73-77% = C 60-67% = D
       90-92% = A- 80-82% = B- 70-72 = C- 0 – 59% = F
       88-89% = B+ 78-79% = C+ 68-69% = D+

                                               (Continued on back)
 Check your grade regularly on Skyward BUT,
 Do NOT use Skyward to keep track of due dates. When scores are posted, the work has
already happened, been due and collected. Late daily assignments are not accepted unless
the teacher has approved an exception.
 When seeking grade assistance, come with a specific question, not just “What is my grade?”
or “What am I missing?”. Please check Skyward details and comments first.
       
Extra credit is “EXTRA” and generally not available in this class...I do not provide extra credit to
replace missing work. Some extra credit will be available, but not at semester end.

Keep ALL WORK until you get your report card!
 If there is a discrepancy in your scores, you will need to produce the original work. If you
can’t, the score in the gradebook will stand. Backup Your Work - Keep hard copies of
paper assignments and save all electronic assignments to your digital locker, usb, send a
copy to your email, etc. Multiple saving methods for each assignment are recommended.

                                        General Classroom Behavior
Electronic Devices:
 As you all know, MDH policy prohibits use of electronic devices in the classroom.
 Students are expected to be on-task, and not using computers for personal entertainment.
 Students are expected to take care of the computer equipment assigned to them and
follow class instructions. Misuse of equipment will result in loss of computer privileges.

How to Find Mrs. Smith:
               D101 (classroom), D110 (Chef room) or D103 (office).
 I do not teach Period 2 so will not be available before school or until 9am on T, Th, or F.

These policies reinforce important workplace employability skills. Strong attendance,
meeting deadlines and being able to be resourceful and problem solve to carry out your
responsibilities are qualities highly valued by employers. I strive to encourage application of
these skills to assist you in preparing for both post-secondary and future career success. I
am looking forward to having you in my class.

Sincerely, Carol Smith
