GETTING INFORMATION & RESEARCH HELP
Reference Desks (near the West and East sides th of the 4 floor) are where librarians help you:  use CityCat, the library catalog to find books, videos, sound recordings, reserve items;  find articles from journals and magazines;  do research on the internet;  obtain general information and directions. Library Research Workshops are offered each semester on a variety of ways to do research. Schedules are at the Reference Desks and online at the Library website. Sign up at the West Reference Desk. Self-Guided Walking Tour – This handout is available at the Reference Desks to help you orient yourself to the library. Library Website – http://www.ccsf.edu/Library Get e-mail reference help, information about our libraries, subject guides, links to search engines & websites by topic, and more. LIS 10 “Use of Information Resources” is a one-credit, self-paced online course.

GETTING BOOKS FROM ANOTHER LIBRARY
Students with a valid ID & barcode may borrow books from any CCSF campus library. Intercampus Loan Service brings books and copies of periodical articles from one CCSF campus library to another for students, faculty and staff. Ask at a Reference Desk. Interlibrary Loan (getting books from libraries outside the CCSF system) is available only on a very limited basis. Please ask a reference librarian for details. Links to the public and other academic library catalogs are available on the library’s website.

Costs - All black & white copies cost 10 cents per page. Cash or copy cards may be used. Copy card vending machines are near the copiers on th the 4th floor and on the 5 floor near R521. A color photocopier is located on the 3 floor: it costs $1.25 per 8 1/2 x 11 page.

FINDING & BORROWING BOOKS & RESERVES
CityCat – the online library catalog at the library’s website http://www.ccsf.edu/Library  shows which library has the book, the collection it is in, and if it is available;  shows the call number (“address” of the book on the shelf, based on the subject). Circulating books (that you may borrow) rd th are on the 3 and 5 floors of the library. Library Card – a valid student, faculty or staff ID with a barcode. Circulation Desk – located next to the library’s entrance, this is where:  you borrow books;  you get information on loan periods, renewals, holding books, and fines;  you ask about privileges for non-CCSF users;  some (not all) course textbooks and other materials from instructors are kept on Reserve. Only one reserve item may be used at a time. Ask at a Reference Desk to find reserve items.

COMPUTERS & PRINTING
You must have a barcode to use the library’s computers. Ask at a Reference Desk for more information. Please read computer use policies before using the library’s workstations. Research – All workstations on the 4 floor are for school-related research. No disks or downloading are allowed. E-mail – On the 4 floor, e-mail is permitted only at the sit-down research workstations near the Periodicals area. Word Processing and other office applications are available in R521: disks may be used and e-mail is allowed there. Printing is available from all library computers.  4 floor computers are linked to a printer near the East Reference Desk.

STUDY SPACE
Carrels and tables are located on all three floors of the library. Group Study Rooms on the 3rd and 5th floors may be reserved at the Circulation Desk by two or more students for a maximum of two hours per day for class-related work.

PERIODICALS (MAGAZINES, JOURNALS, NEWSPAPERS)
Located at the East end of the 4 floor Periodicals Desk has student assistants who can help you find periodicals and use the reader/printers for microforms. Help is also available at the Reference Desks. Periodical Holdings List on the Library’s website and in print lists the periodicals we have and their formats (print, microfilm, microfiche, online full-text). Online databases on the library’s website provide articles and reports, many of them full-text, by subject. Ask a reference librarian for assistance using the periodical databases.

OTHER SERVICES
Fax service - Ask at the Circulation Desk.  Incoming: $1.00/page  Outgoing: $2.00/page, continental U.S. only Lost and Found is at the Circulation Desk. Unclaimed articles are sent to the central Lost and Found in the Campus Police Office, Cloud Hall, Room 119. Restrooms are located inside the Library on the 3rd and 5th floors; and in the 4th floor lobby opposite the library entrance.

 Word processing lab (R521) printer is just outside the room.  Black & white prints are 10 cents per page; copy cards must be used for payment. Typewriters are available on the 3 floor. Sign up for them at the Circulation Desk.

Telephones  Pay telephones are outside the library th entrance on the 4 floor (across the lobby) st and near the 1 floor building entrance.  A campus phone is located in the lobby just outside the library entrance.  3rd & 5th floor phones in the library connect to the Reference Desk and may be used to reach Campus Police in an emergency.

DISABLED STUDENTS
Ask staff at any service desk about:  Selection and retrieval of materials for people whose disabilities prevent them from going through the stacks;  Assistance with the photocopiers; Ask at the Circulation Desk about ordering Books on Tape. Near the East Reference Desk, 4 floor, are:  A computer workstation for use by people with visual and/or motor disabilities;  A CCTV reader that magnifies print copy onto a screen for persons who are visually impaired;  A magnifying reading lamp – check out from the East Reference Desk for use in the library.
