Pharmacy students recognised for excellence at CSU
Nine Charles Sturt University (CSU) pharmacy students have been rewarded for their effort and dedication to study with scholarships through the Charles Sturt Foundation. Scholarships were awarded to students at the Wagga Wagga campus and the CSU Orange campus for outstanding academic performance, community involvement, leadership and dedication to the future of the pharmacy profession. This year, the first two scholarships awarded to CSU students studying at Orange, were presented to Claire Mason (Lawlers Family Pharmacies) and Matthew Barwick (John Matthews & Co Chemworld Chemist). Both scholarships have been established by new Pharmacy Foundation donors from NSW’s Central West region. At the Wagga Wagga campus, seven scholarships were awarded to Sarah Thompson, Bree Klein and Yvette Element (Capital Chemist), Joshua Kennedy and Mena Abdel Messih (Gissing’s Pharmacy), Maggie Talbot (Kevin Dickson Memorial Scholarship) and Benjamin Marchant (Riverina Media Group). Mr Peter Gissing, Chair of the Charles Sturt Pharmacy Foundation said the scholarship program provided enormous benefits for students at the beginning of their career in the pharmacy profession. “Not only does the scholarship program provide students with financial assistance during their studies, it also provides a link between the university and the profession which in many cases has resulted in the student undertaking their pre-registration year and full-time employment with the scholarship donor at the end of their studies,” Mr Gissing said. “Donors that support the scholarship program through the Charles Sturt Pharmacy Foundation are assisting to establish the academic and professional lives of people entering the pharmacy profession. I have no doubt that in years to come, the nine pharmacy students that have received scholarships this year will fondly remember the contribution their benefactor has made to their lives.” Anyone interested in supporting the Charles Sturt Foundation should contact the Foundation Office on (02) 6338 4832.
