I am pleased to welcome you all to the 2009 HBIA Australian Hairdressing Championships Events and Rules Booklet. The booklet has been designed to provide a direct, informative and useful guide for interpreting the HBIA competition rules and events program. It is very important that you carefully read all the rules and conditions highlighted within this booklet. By doing so, you are assured that you have all the necessary information you require regarding the types of artistic works to demonstrate, as well as understand what the judging panel are looking for. I wish to introduce to you a new and exciting event titled “Session Artist Award”, sponsored by Kevin Murphy. This is a great platform and a fantastic opportunity for our future industry leaders to showcase their skills to their peers as well as to the entire industry. The “Session Artist Award” category also provides an opportunity for today’s industry leaders to recognize young achievers and encourage all who enter to strive for excellence. Please note that all entries are to be received no later than the Friday 12th June 2009. It is vital that you give sufficient information on the entry form to avoid any delay to the registration process. You will also need to sign and return any declaration forms required. Should you have any queries in relation to your entry form or any of the given rules please contact Kristy at HBIA on (03) 8862 6521. Through-out the current challenging economic times, salon owners are particularly encouraged to raise both their profile and their brand by showcasing the talents of their team members at this year’s event. It will be a wonderful opportunity to reinforce the name of a salon operator to a broad audience. I wish everyone the very best of luck and look forward to seeing you on 21st June 2009!!

Hairdressing is an exciting industry to work in and I feel privileged to have spent many years watching it evolve into what it is today. The transformation of the industry can only happen with the enthusiasm and innovation of the up and coming hairdressing talent. The HBIA Championships are a fantastic avenue for hairdressers to express their creativity and to demonstrate their skills in front of a live audience. The diversity and creativeness of the work presented each year is inspiring. Competitions are a great way to motivate and encourage young hairdressers. It enables them to see what others are accomplishing, builds their confidence and provides a great platform for networking. It doesn’t matter who wins, everyone’s a winner.
