                            Kennewick First Presbyterian Church

PURPOSE
It is the primary purpose of the internship to be a learning opportunity through relational ministry to
children and junior and senior high students. Interns will also spend time in general ministry activities
such as preaching, pastoral care, missions, worship leadership, and teaching. In particular, the intern
ministry provides the chance for interns to gain practical ministry training, work in an atmosphere of
personal and professional guidance and support, test their gifts and call to vocational ministry, and
develop spiritually and theologically.

RESPONSIBLE TO
The youth intern will be accountable to the Youth Director.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
   Present the gospel of Jesus Christ to young people and to encourage them in their growth through
    the study of scripture, prayer, service, and fellowship.
   Plan and carry out activities with children and youth (VBS, YB‟s, LYFE).
   Develop relationships with youth, parents, and volunteer staff through individual and group contact,
    mail, e-mail, and phone.
   Actively participate in regular worship and life of Kennewick First Presbyterian Church.
   Meet weekly with the Youth Director and Pastoral Staff for prayer, planning, study and
    communication. Meet weekly with the Youth Director and Associate Pastor for planning and
    evaluation.
   Meet weekly with mentor.
   Assist the Youth and Children‟s Ministry staff in planning and executing ministry programs. These
    include Bible studies, small groups, special events, retreats, and mission projects.
   Lead youth meetings and summer ministries when the Youth Director is away on mission trips or
    camps. Accompany the Youth Director on some summer camps and mission trips.
   Reach out to youth in the community who do not know Christ.
   Maintain personal, spiritual and professional growth.

REQUIRED SKILLS
  Growing personal commitment to Jesus Christ, the body of Christ, and God‟s work in the world.
  Ability to work effectively with youth, exhibiting creativity, understanding and patience.
  Ability to verbally articulate personal faith and a biblical world-view.
  Interns must be at least 20 years old.

TIME COMMITMENT
Full time (approx. 40-50 hours per week), ten-week summer assignment, anticipated dates June 16
through August 22, 2009.

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS
Stipend of $2,700 for the term of the 10-week internship. Room and board with a host family from KFPC
is provided (for the intern only). There are no other benefits provided.

EVALUATIONS
The Youth Director and Associate Pastor will provide an assessment of performance during the internship
at five weeks and the end of the assignment. Additional assessments will be provided in accordance with
the intern‟s academic institution requirements if the intern is receiving Field Experience credit.
