The Most Effective Stress Relief Techniques for Students If you are currently a student at one of the many colleges in Salt Lake City, you know that life can become very stressful. With the pressures of school and work bearing down on you, it can sometimes seem like you are suffocating. You may not be able to get rid of the stress you feel altogether, but you can definitely become better at managing it. There are many different techniques you can practice that will help you to bear the weight of your stress on a daily basis. Power Naps One of the most important techniques that many students overlook is the power nap. When students are sleep deprived, they are significantly less productive. It is quite the paradox, actually. Hard-working students sacrifice their sleep in order to study, but they end up doing worse because they initially sacrificed sleep. Getting inadequate sleep affects most areas of your life, but it greatly affects your concentration and ability to focus. Students who are sleep deprived have reported that they have found it very difficult to learn. Power naps are short naps that you take in between the events and activities of a busy day. Most people’s power naps are anywhere from 10-30 minutes. If you didn’t get enough sleep the night before, a power nap will help replenish your store of sleep and will help you to make it through the rest of the day. Exercise is also another stress reliever that is often overlooked. Exercise and other useful Stress Relievers Busy students usually don’t believe that they have time to exercise. But what they don’t realize is that exercising is a great stress reliever in itself. Exercising will help busy students be able to focus better and better manage the tasks that they have to complete. Exercising releases endorphins in your brain, which help you to feel better and more content in general. Another great stress relieving technique is deep breathing. When your body reacts to stress, your muscles usually tense up without you even realizing it. Practicing deep breathing and meditation can help you to relax quickly, and get your body calmed down. Listening to calming and relaxing music has also been shown to help relieve stress among college students. Listening to classical music before you go to bed has even been found to be linked with better performance in school. Staying organized is also another technique that can help relieve stress while you are in school. Having everything in the right place and where it should be will help you to feel less stressed out. Having to constantly look under piles of papers and dig through your backpack for an item will just make you more anxious and nervous about all the things you need to accomplish. Eating a healthy and well-balanced diet will also help you to feel less stressed out while at school. Eating healthy foods will help you to feel more calm and in control of your life. Practicing these simple techniques will help you to feel less stressed out when you are attending one of the colleges in Salt Lake City.
