Red Cross Humanitarian Partner Program
Our Humanitarian Partner Program f undraisers
Red Cross fundraisers talk to people directly – in the street, in shopping
centres and on the doorstep. Over the long-term, it is a cost-effective way
of recruiting monthly supporters to Red Cross and has become a hugely
important part of our fundraising activity, collecting millions of dollars each
year for our services.
Why do you use these fundraising techniques?
Put simply, it works. Street, shopping centre and door-to-door fundraising
has dramatically increased the number of regular givers to the Red Cross
Humanitarian Partner Program.
The value of a regular gift via a bank direct debit or credit card cannot be
overstated. The long-term security of these donations lets us plan ahead
with confidence and be ready to respond when emergencies like the
Victorian Bushfire occur.
These campaigns also attract a diverse range of supporters, many of
whom we have not been able to reach through traditional methods. For
example, our street fundraising has led to a marked rise in the number of
young supporters who are now committed to long-term giving.
Door-to-door fundraising is one of the most effective ways of recruiting supporters to Red Cross. Our fundraisers knock on doors to
talk to people about our programs and services, and ask them to support us with a regular monthly donation.
We started door-to-door fundraising with external agencies in 2007. It has allowed us to engage with people we haven’t been able to
reach through other fundraising methods.
Street/shopping centre f undraisers
Street/shopping centre fundraising involves speaking to people in the street or at a stall in a shopping centre about our work and
asking them to support us with a regular monthly donation. Over the long-term it is one of the most cost-effective ways to recruit new
direct debit supporters. Many of these supporters we recruit will stay with us for many years to come.
We started street fundraising in 2001 and now manage it with an external agency called Cornucopia Fundraising.
How do I know if a fundraiser is genuine?
Humanitarian Partner Program fundraisers only ask for regular donations via bank direct debit or credit card and are not authorised to
accept one-off cash gifts. Please be assured that setting up a donation by direct debit is entirely safe.
How to recognise a door-to-door/street/shopping centre fundraiser
Legitimate Humanitarian Partner Program fundraisers will be:
• Wearing a Red T-shirt or Spray Jacket with the Australian Red Cross Logo on both the
front and back
• Displaying a Cornucopia Fundraising identification badge with their name, photo and
• Carrying up-to-date Red Cross literature.
