This report was created from census data purchased from Statistics Canada as a "semi custom area profile". While the appearance is
similar to other profiles based on standard census geography produced by BC Stats, there are a number of differences worth noting
This report contains no "100% data" based on the short form census questionnaire; all data here is based on the sample of
approximately 20% of households using the long form questionnaire. Also, the total number of variables available here falls short of what
is reported in the regular profile. This report provides comparisons to province-wide figures as a means to highlight the unique
characteristics of the subject area. Further, a number of variables are sorted in the order of importance in the subject riding.

  Families - economic families
The economic family concept requires only that family members be related by blood, marriage, common-law or adoption. By contrast, the census
family concept requires that family members be either a male or female spouse, a male or female common-law partner, a male or female lone
parent, or a child with a parent present. The concept of economic family may therefore refer to a larger group of persons than does the census
family concept. For example, a widowed mother living with her married son and daughter-in-law would be treated as a person not in a census
family. That same person would, however, be counted as a member of an economic family along with her son and daughter-in-law. Two or more
related census families living together also constitute one economic family as, for example, a man and his wife living with their married son and
daughter-in-law. Two or more brothers or sisters living together, apart from their parents, will form an economic family, but not a census family,
since they do not meet the requirements for the latter. All census family persons are economic family persons. For 2006, foster children are
considered economic family members.

  Families - census families
Refers to a married couple (with or without children of either or both spouses), a couple living common-law (with or without children of either or both
partners) or a lone parent of any marital status, with at least one child living in the same dwelling. A couple may be of opposite or same sex.
'Children' in a census family include grandchildren living with their grandparent(s) but with no parents present.

Children refer to blood, step- or adopted sons and daughters (regardless of age or marital status) who are living in the same dwelling as their
parent(s), as well as grandchildren in households where there are no parents present. Sons and daughters who are living with their spouse or
common-law partner, or with one or more of their own children, are not considered to be members of the census family of their parent(s), even if they
are living in the same dwelling. In addition, the sons or daughters who do not live in the same dwelling as their parent(s) are not considered
members of the census family of their parent(s). When sons or daughters study or have a summer job elsewhere but return to live with their
parent(s) during the year, these sons and daughters are considered members of the census family of their parent(s).

For 2006, a married couple may be of opposite or same sex.

This report is one of a series, commissioned by Elections BC. There is an individual profile report for each of the
85 provincial electoral districts which came into force for the provincial general election held on May 12, 2009.

Terminology used in the publication of census data is very precise. The best source of definitions is available on-line at

                                                           Revisions to report:
January 26, 2009 - Edited label in chart on page 4, Workplace and Transportation. Used to show "Hope LHA" in place of PED name.
Now reads correctly. Data not affected.
May 21, 2009 - Corrected BC level percent distributions on page 10. Edited title on pages 11 and 12 to clarify that the data are for total origins.
Note that a person may have indicated multiple origins (for example, English and Chinese) so that
there are more ethnic origins than persons. This is true for the multiple origins section of page 10
and the total origins section of page 10 and all of pages 11 and 12. In calculating the percent
distributions the total population is used as the denominator. Thus, the addition of the percentages
(or the origins) will exceed 100% (or the total population) for both total and multiple orignins.
