									            IMPORTANT SCHEDULING INFORMATION FOR
                   KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS
                    OCTOBER 23 & MARCH 12

October 14, 2009

Dear Kindergarten Parents,

We would like to provide information to you regarding two dates that will affect the schedule
for your kindergarten student this year.

Two half-day, early dismissals for all K-12 students are listed on the School District calendar
for October 23 and March 12. The purpose of these days is to provide the administrative and
teaching staff with sustained time to develop curriculum and related assessments and to hold
training on curriculum implementation.

All students in the school district will be dismissed after attending a half-day of school. This
is different from other early release days for open house and spring exhibit when students are
released two hours before the end of the school day. Students will be dismissed from the
elementary schools at 11:30 a.m. This will impact the kindergarten schedule in the following
ways.

                              Morning Kindergarten Students

October 23, 2009
• All morning kindergarten students will be picked up in the morning according to their
regular bus schedule but will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. (rather than the usual 11:00 a.m.
dismissal) Students will be transported home to their bus stops in the usual manner. The
transportation department is unable to complete an 11:00 kindergarten run because all busses
will be in use for the High School’s early dismissal. Kindergarten students who are
transported to childcare, other than EDS-K Plus, will be picked up at the regular 11:00
dismissal time.

• Lunch will be served to kindergarten students on this day (see back).

• Extended Day Services will provide the kindergarten families they serve with
information on the services they will be providing on this day.

March 12, 2009
• There will be NO SCHOOL for morning kindergarten students on March 12 in order to
allow the opportunity for afternoon kindergarten students too attend the morning session.
                          Afternoon Kindergarten Students

October 23, 2009
• There will be NO SCHOOL for afternoon kindergarten students on October 23.

March 12, 2009
• Afternoon kindergarten students will attend school in the MORNING and will be
dismissed at 11:30 a.m. Bussing will be provided both to and from school. The time for pick
up in the morning will be the same as other children in your neighborhood, but you will
receive specific information regarding exact times in the spring..

• Lunch will be served to kindergarten students on this day (see below)

                                    Lunch will be Served
All students, including kindergarten students, will be served lunch on these days. Students
can purchase a lunch for $1.75 or they may bring their own lunch.

                                 Why a Schedule Change?

It is necessary to alter the schedule in this manner in order to provide equity to both morning
and afternoon kindergarten programs. We are unable to use substitute teachers to hold
afternoon kindergarten on these days because our administrators will not be in the buildings to
supervise. We recognize that this may cause disruption to your normal routine and ask for
your understanding and cooperation. This day will be of great benefit to our School District
by strengthening the programs we offer to your children.

If you have any questions, please contact your building principal. We thank you for your
continued support of our schools and programs.

Sincerely,

Dr. Ruth Ann Matyuf Mr. Mark Miller
Principal, Baker School Principal, Eisenhower School

Dr. Claire Miller Dr. Judy Bulazo
Principal, Streams School Director of Elementary Education
