              Autumn News letter 2009
It is a delight to welcome a student ordinand who
will worship with us during most of her first year of
academic studies. Julie Khovacs, who lives in
Canterbury, will be training at Wescott House in
Cambridge where she will live during the week.
St Martin’s will provide her with a worshipping
base, practice, and will also widen her experience
                            of church.
She will be joining various rotas and I know that you will give Julie a very warm
welcome and enable her to feel at home here among us, in what will be quite a
fragmented life, so do say hello over coffee.

Week of Accompanied Prayer....What Now?
This was attended by 20 participants who movingly laid symbols of their week’s
journey with God during the final service. When asked the question, “What now?”
requests were for reflective services such as Taize, (25/10).a quiet morning or a
reflective prayer/home group. So, keep a careful watch in the weekly sheet as we
plan for continuing the journey we have started.
Fear not I have redeemed you, I have summoned you by name you are mine
You are precious and honoured in my sight. Is 43.

Confirmation. We currently have groups of adults and young people exploring faith
and possibly confirmation. This is wonderful. Please may you pray that each one
grows in faith and God’s love? It would be great for the congregation to come along
and support our brothers and sisters in Christ. So, please make a note in your dairies
that confirmation is at on 31st October 2009 at Christ Church.

2010, 700 years as a parish! Plans are gathering pace so
do please keep up to date by looking at the committee meeting
minutes and the blue draft programme at the back of our
churches. We will have a few low key fund raising events to
cover costs. If you can, do support the Flower Lady’s Nosh and
Knowledge at the Institute Hall on the 7th November. Let‘s make up some tables!
Tickets from Pauline Ison 375758.

Flower Festival. We will have a concluding flower festival (+ grand Fete/ concert etc)
on the last weekend 2/3/4th July. Flower arrangements will use the theme of hymns
and we need your help! We are asking each of you to choose your favourite hymn.
The most popular hymns will be used for flower displays. Entry forms are at the back
of church.
Back to Church Harvest Thank you to everyone who
came, and supported Scrine, Poverty and
Sunday Hope or Fair Trade. Scrine were delighted
saw 162 people in our with the gifts, please pray for them as they
churches, and it was a try to continue despite KCC pulling out of
delight to welcome some grant support. We hope to have a Fair
new and old friends. Trade stall from time to time after church.
Would anyone like to co-ordinate that?
Thank you Geoff, all who
Thank you to all 50 people who came to
   asked, welcomed and
the Harvest lunch, and Angie and her team
nourished everyone with who helped set up and wash up. It was fun
love and refreshments! and a delight to be at St Peter’s.

The Pastoral Team are now out in teams visiting and
taking Holy Communion to some people in residential care
and their own homes. It is wonderful to extend our
worship and community with people unable to attend
church, or to bring people to us on Sundays. It has also
been so good to welcome residents of Strode Park to our
Sunday Services. Please do stay for coffee and chat with
them if you can. Thank you also to all of you, not on teams, who quietly visit and
support others. Please pray for our parish pastoral care.

Emergency Prayer Chain. From time to time people in our congregations or
community may be urgently in need of prayer. At such times it would be very useful
to quickly mobilise a chain of people to pray. (Each person rings next
person on chain) Would you consider being such a person? You don’t
have to be “good” at praying, just willing to hold someone up to God as
you go about your daily business or quietly as you prefer. Confidentiality
will be maintained and only the minimum of information will be passed as agreed by
the person concerned. It is part of our life as a church community that we love and
pray for each other especially in times of acute need. Please do consider this and
contact Elaine 370256 for more info.

 Lead thieves have visited St
 Martin’s !
 The police have
 apprehended one local lad,
but the problem will not necessarily
go away. Just when the organ was finally
mended and we were planning to start
on woodworm treatment, we have to give attention to repairing and
finding a long term solution to burglar proofing our large north Aisle
lead roof!
    Not easy!

N.B. PCC minutes are always at the back of the church if you
would like to see what your representatives are planning.
