Dear Parents and Guardians:

PRAYERS AND ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

Prayers:
Let’s pray for a warm and fun-filled three-day Parish Festival this weekend. Thanks for
being extra safe during the last few days of wind and rain. Please continue to pray for
the citizens of Samoa, Philippines, and Indonesia as they recover from recent floods.
Links to programs assisting these countries can be found in last week’s communication.

Acknowledgements:
Thank you to all our parent volunteers working the Parish Festival this weekend as final
plans come to fruition. Posted today is a complete list of all scheduled festival
activities as we celebrate the “Wide World of Sports”. Thank you to our raffle
coordinator, Marvin Laubacher. He visited all the classrooms yesterday to promote the
raffle competition. We hope to reach our goal of 1000 booklets sold. There are many
incentives for students to sell booklets (see below). Also, today we gave students a
hardcopy listing of local businesses that will honor those who purchase raffle tickets by
giving them discounts. Ask your child to see listings. You can make copies of this form,
as it is an excellent incentive to purchase more booklets.

Reminders and Announcements

    • The parish festival is a public event covering a full three days with many
activities and events happening on campus. Parents need to properly
supervise their children and be aware of where they are. Encourage them to
regularly check-in with you. Younger primary grade students require consistent
        supervision. Thank you.

    • During the Festival children are not allowed in any of the booths.

    • The Daughters of St. Paul, who are Catholic Religious Sisters working with
Media for Evangelization are going to be present at St. Dunstan School for a
School Book Fair on Wednesday, October 28th, 2009. The Sisters will be
inviting the students from grades K- 5 to view their books during the school day.
(Many of these books have been authored, published and illustrated by the
Sisters themselves.) Each child will be given an order form on which they can

indicate their choices. Parents or Guardians are encouraged to review their
child’s order and make appropriate selections. Orders, together with payment,
may be returned to the child’s teacher on the next or following day. When the
Sisters have received all the orders, they will return with the books in about two
        weeks.

    • A hard copy of the Knightly News for October will be going home today with
your child. It also has been posted on the website.

    • When sending in payments for hot lunches, raffle/ride tickets etc, please make
        sure they are attached to an order form or placed in a properly marked envelope;
loose payments can easily get lost.

    • There is a Flu update from the Archdiocese San Francisco that is posted
today. It is a reiteration of earlier postings from the San Mateo County Health
Department. Please review content and remind your children to wash their hands
        regularly and properly.

    • Parent-Teacher Conferences will be the week of November 2nd -6th. These
are 12:35 pm days to accommodate the meetings. Conference times will be
announced in advance. At the conference you will receive your child’s first
quarter report card, a parent report on your child’s IOWA (Standardized Test
Scores), and commentary on your child’s progress.

Food Service Questionnaire
The School is aware that parents are dissatisfied with our current lunch program
provided by Divine Catering. We went to meet with the manager of Divine Catering,
visited their kitchen, and expressed our concerns. We would appreciate it if you could
help us by answering the following three questions and send them to Advisory Board
Marketing Chair Diana Chang via email at lunchprogram09@gmail.com:

1. Are you and/or your child (ren) happy with the food offered by current caterer?
2. What would be an ideal lunch program offered by the school?
3. What would you like to see different on the menu?

Your feedback is important and greatly appreciated. It will be presented at the next
School Advisory Board Meeting on October 20th.

My School’s Cool Program has begun.
Want to help our school win $500 every time you shop at Tanforan Shopping Mall?
Then save your receipts and turn them in to our school’s office. There are 9 other
schools participating in this program and word has it that Lomita School wins every
year. Let’s show them what we can do! Ask your friends and family to save their
receipts for our school! Every dollar counts – even if you just buy a cup of coffee or an
ice cream cone! Movie ticket stubs and snacks from the concession stand count too!
For more information on “My School’s Cool” program, go to our school’s website at:
