									Hello Desert Vista – today is Friday, Oct. 23, 2009.

Campus News:

        Homecoming is next week. Show your school spirit and go all out on your costumes!
           o Monday – Splash Mountain, wear your water gear (no bathing suits)
           o Tuesday – Space Mountain, dress like an alien or wear neon colors
           o Wednesday – Indiana Jones, come dressed ready for your jungle adventure
           o Thursday – It’s a Small World – show your multicultural side
           o Friday – Haunted Mansion, wear your homecoming shirts on sale in the bookstore

        There is a carnival Friday at 5:30 until 7:30 pm before the big game. The entrance is 2 cans of food. There will be
        rides, games, food and performances. Please come and celebrate before the game at the Fall Festival Carnival.

        Saturday is the Homecoming Dance. It’s a night at the Haunted Mansion. There are no costumes at the game or
        dance. The dance will be held in the gym from 8 pm to 11 pm. The tickets are on sale now in the bookstore for $15 a
        single and $20 a couple but the costs go up at the door to $20 a single and $30 a couple. So buy your tickets early!!!!
        Guest passes are available now in the bookstore. They are due October 28th. No late guest passes will be issued so
        start early!!! You need lots of signatures so don’t wait to the last minute. Remember to bring your ID to the dance.
        Absolutely no one will be admitted without an ID.


        The Youth Ambassador Exchange Program is available to Phoenix residents and offers students the opportunity to
        visit one of Phoenix’s 9 sister cities next summer to learn more about the city and its culture through a three-week
        home-hosted experience. Phoenix students reciprocate and house their host brother or sister when they visit Phoenix
        during the same summer. Think you’ve got what it takes? This is not an academic based program, but for well
        rounded, mature teens who are ready for the adventure. The application is on the DV Scholarship Website or you can
        meet the Youth Ambassador Exchange Program Director and learn more about the program during both lunches on
        Friday, November 13 in the Career Center.




        AIMS testing room assignments are now posted across from the bookstore, near the Math Office, by room C216 and
        down the hall from the drama room. Please know your room assignment BEFORE test day.
           o As a reminder---All sophomores will take the Writing Pilot Test on Monday, October 26 at 8:18. All other
                students should remain off-campus until first period starts at 10:35. This is the ONLY testing day with a
                special schedule.
           o Juniors and seniors taking AIMS October 27-29, should report to the appropriate testing room in plenty of
                time to begin testing at 8:18.
           o Please stop by the Counseling Office if you have any questions.




        Calling all Desert Vista Thunder MALES!!! The Mr. Thunder Pageant to be held Saturday, Nov 14 th at 7PM is currently
        accepting applications for participation. Get your applications from any cheerleader or in the front office. Hurry !
        Applications are due Friday Oct 23rd and participation is limited, so get your application in TODAY!!




        Are you interested in starring in play? Well then you should consider auditioning for Tartuffe. Thunder Speech
        Theater and Debate company is holding auditions that will be this Thursday after school in the black-box theater
        (A174). Call backs will be held on Friday. Tartuffe is a Contemporary-Comedy that has the dialogue set in complete
        rhyme. We hope to see you all there.

          Relay for Life Kickoff, Thursday October 29th, 2009, 7:00-9:00pm, DV Cafeteria
          Pick up your team registration packet in the cafeteria at the Relay station!

          The GSA, Gay-Straight Alliance, will meet Monday, Oct. 26th at 3:15 in room C-211. We will finalize plans for
          Homecoming. All are welcome.”

          If you have a gold card, Friday is your lucky day. The Renaissance club is giving out donuts to all gold card members.
          Show your card, get a sweet treat.



          Members of the DV Vogue Fashion Club will be organizing and modeling in a fashion show for the Purple Skirt
          boutique. This event will be taking place at the Pamper Me Pretty women’s expo on November 8th at the Radisson
          hotel in Chandler. We will be meeting with the host of the expo at our next meeting, which will be held in room A-164
          after school on Monday. We hope to see you there!"


          Are you looking for opportunities for more community service hours? Are you interested in gaining entry into the
          National Honor Society? Are you wanting to build your resume in order to gain entrance into a favorite college or
          university? If you are, you need to come to the SAGE Community Service Informational meeting being held TODAY,
          after school, in the library. We will be discussing the various community service opportunities offered here on campus
          as well as off campus. Again, that’s TODAY, right after school, in the library.




          Wanna Get Away? Join your friends at DV and the Close Up Foundation for a fun-filled WEEK in Washington, D.C.
          During the week, you get the insider’s tour of the nation’s capitol, meet with key people in government, and make lots
          of new friends in the process. Interested students should contact Mrs. Hoffman’s classroom, C-265, before school at
          7:50 and after school at 3:15. Hope you can join us… it’s a great experience!


Sports:


          The Thunder Boys Cross Country Team continued the long standing tradition of “sweeping” the Tempe City
          Championship Meet at Desert Breeze Park on Wednesday. The Varsity was led be a strong pack of Albert Kombe,
          Tucker Kidd, Ryan Dykstra, Trey Kennedy, Kevin Kennedy, Ryan Maack, and Sean Gormley, and beat a strong team
          from Corona. The Open race was led by Kevin Estrada and the team of Ben Ten Eyck, Nick Kooinga, Austin Aguinaga,
          and Ramsey Carroll took home the team title easily! And the freshman were led by Carter Macey, Austin Tielke, Dylan
          Smith, Troy Giordano, and Kyle Price who dominated with an almost perfect score….Congrats to these young men and
          the whole team who head to regionals next Thursday at Freestone Park in Gilbert!
          Come support our varsity A hockey team this Sat. Oct 24 @ 6:30pm, Polar-Ice Chandler (North Pole). The game is
          against Brophy Broncos. Invite your family and friends too. Let's get a big crowd to cheer on our team!




          Shout outs to the girls cross country team. They have been working hard since June 1 st. They just swept the city meet
          at all three levels (freshmen, JV, and the varsity). They are currently ranked number 2-3 in the state (5a,4a,3a,2a).

       And ranked 17th in the southwest region (Az, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah). If you see them, they worked
       hard I'm sure they would love a congratulations.
       The freshmen boys tennis team defeated Chandler High yesterday by the score of 5-4. Big Wins by Andy Cook, Nitin
       Dinesh, Carleton Wang in singles. Winners in doubles were Andy Cook and Carleton Wang along with Preston Thomas
       and Matt Arriaga. Our last match of the season is home today vs. Casa Grande.

       Reminder: There will be a meeting for all wrestlers immediately after school today, in the wrestling room.
