Working with Matching Projects
Matching projects are coordinated sets of QuickStart Layouts designed to work together . For example, if you select a QuickStart Layout for a business card, you might see an option to open matching projects for a letterhead, an envelope, and a pamphlet, which have all been designed to complement one another . Click the All checkbox in the Select Matching Projects list at the bottom of the Select a QuickStart Layout step window . A set of projects opens, allowing you to customize each one of the sets at the same time. Not all QuickStart Layouts have matching projects .

Using Resources and Tools
The project panel is the section within the work area that represents the project’s printable area. The project panel is often equal to one full page (such as Signs, Certificates). However, many projects use several panels per page . For example, Greeting Cards and Pamphlets have a front, inside, and back panel .
There are also projects that have only one working panel but are printed several copies to a page, such as Business Cards and Postcards . Note: The dashed line on the panel represents the edge of the maximum printable area . An object extending past the dashed line will be cut off when printed.
The margins that surround a project are designated by the software of your printer (the printer driver) . The Print Shop Design Desk displays the margins determined by the printer that is selected in the Page Setup dialog for the currently open project . If you choose another printer in Page Setup, the margins may change on the Design Desk and the objects in your project may be scaled to fit the new printable area. At the bottom of the Design Desk is the status bar, which you can use to navigate between the panels in a multipanel project and to change zoom levels .
If your project has more than one panel, the Panel View icons appear next to the zoom placard in the status bar . Click a panel icon to go to the corresponding panel of your project or choose the name of the panel you want from the View menu . Front panel icon Inside panel icon Back panel icon Takes you to the front panel . Takes you to the inside panel . Takes you to the back panel .

Working With Objects
The Print Shop provides a number of ways of working with objects to get the look you want . This section shows you how to work with objects on the Design Desk .
Adding Objects
The Print Shop uses the following types of objects: Backdrops Borders Custom Graphics Decorative Lines Photo Frame Graphics Headlines Imported Images Photographs Shapes Text Block Watermark A backdrop serves as the background for your project . Backdrops are the bottom-most layer and cannot be selected or moved like other objects . A full panel border or a decorative mini-border . Graphics that can be personalized . They are Logos, Seals, Timepieces, Signatures, and Initial Caps .
A line that you can insert anywhere in your project . A decorative border for your photos . A picture, drawing, or design .
A graphic or photo that you get from another source, such as a CD, digital camera, or scanner, or from the Internet . Photos from your iPhoto albums also belong to this category . Photo images in JPEG format included in The Print Shop. An object in which you can type and insert text . Simple shapes like lines, circles or squares, or custom shapes .
A special type of text block that you can use for large, striking text .
A panel background that gives your project the appearance of being printed on watermarked paper .
Selecting Objects
The arrow is the default pointer in The Print Shop . Use it to select objects . Place the arrow pointer over an object and click it . A frame and resizing handles appear, indicating that the object is selected . To select multiple objects, click the first object to select it, and then press the Shift key and click additional objects to add them to the selection . If you have a lot of objects in your project, use the Tab key to select each object in succession .
Grouping Objects
You can group two or more objects together . The grouped objects can then be scaled, moved, rotated, and flipped as one object. This saves time and makes it easy to maintain relationships between objects. To group objects: 1 . Select the objects you want to group . To select more than one object at a time, hold down the Shift key while clicking each object in succession or just drag the pointer over the objects . 2 . Choose Group from the Arrange menu . The objects are now grouped .
Designing and Modifying the Project
Designing the Project
To ungroup objects, select the grouped object you want to split into its component objects and then choose Ungroup from the Arrange menu . The objects are split into their original components .
Moving Objects
Moving objects on a page is simple in The Print Shop . There are two ways to do this: • • Click the object and use the pointer to drag the object to another position in the work area . Use the arrow keys. Each time an arrow key is pressed, the selected object moves in the designated direction . Tip: If you hold the Control key when moving the object with the arrow keys, your object moves with larger increment . You can undo a move immediately by choosing Undo Move Selection from the Edit menu or by using the Command - Z keyboard shortcut .
Resizing Objects
The easiest way to resize an object is to select it, then drag one of the corner selection handles to reduce or enlarge the object. Dragging the corner selection handles changes both the object’s width and height proportionally (except for text blocks, headlines, and return addresses) . Dragging the middle-section handles changes only the object’s width or height. Dragging the corner selection handle with the Option key pressed resizes the object (except for text blocks and headlines) without preserving proportion . Text blocks, headlines, and return addresses can be resized proportionally or without preserving proportion by doing these operations in the opposite manner .
You can also resize objects using the Scale dialog to get an exact resizing . When you scale an object, the aspect ratio (the ratio of height to width) may be maintained . You have the option of scaling in all directions, or horizontally or vertically only . To scale an object:
2 . Type the scaling percentage in the Percentage box or use the arrow controls to scale up or down in increments of one . The preset size of the object is 100% . You can scale between 10% and 400% . Tip: You can also drag the slider to change the scale value . 3. Select an option for how you want the scale to affect the image: • • • All Directions Vertical only Horizontal only
1 . Click an object (or multiple objects) to select it, and then choose Scale from the Arrange menu . The Scale dialog appears .
Tip: Choose Size to Panel from the Arrange menu to quickly enlarge your object to the size of the entire panel . 4 . Click OK to scale the object to the percentage shown .

Designing the Project Personalizing Your Project for Multiple Recipients
The Print Shop makes it easy for you to personalize projects you might send to multiple people (such as greeting cards, invitations or post card announcements) through the use of Address Book records or creation of Address Lists . It also allows you to create projects which you might print in large quantities but with different information on each item (such as labels you might make for your videotapes or your wine collection), by creating Custom Lists .
Address Book Integration
Integration with Apple’s Address Book (built into the Mac OS X system) allows you to personalize your projects by merge-printing with all the information you’ve already entered in it. For more information, see Importing Address Book Records .

Custom List
With the Custom List feature, you can create your own fields of information. This is especially useful for creating items such as VCR or audio cassette labels. Enter, delete, add, and save information in the same way you do for the address list . To create or edit a custom list: 1 . Choose Custom List from the Tools menu . Choose the list you want to edit or create a new list by clicking the New List button . 2. Type the information in the blank fields provided. 3 . Click the New Record button to add each new record .

Click the disclosure triangle next to the words Precision Print Adjustment. Now you can change the printing position of your project on the sheet by clicking the up and down arrows next to Horizontal and Vertical Move . You can move the printing position up to 2 inches or up to 5 .08 cm in any direction (up or down, right or left) . Printing Without Margins on the Folds
On certain projects with folds, including all tri-fold projects, you can now decide not to have the thick white margins around each panel that are placed by default on this kind of project . This allows you to make a continuous image across the folds rather than having three distinct image areas . And if combined with a borderless printer, it allows you to have images covering the whole project area right to the edges .
