Here’s a list of the best locations for your friends and family to safely cheer you on along the
route. Please be a courteous neighbor, leave the Cheering Station as clean as you found it and
obey all traffic rules so that we’ll be invited back next year. And don’t forget to bring your Avon
Walk flair, posters, music, etc! This is your time to have fun while supporting a great cause!

Uptown Plaza (mile 2.45)
301 South Tryon Street
Peak viewing times: 7:15 am - 9:00 am

Directions: Cheering Station is located along South Tryon Street closer to Martin Luther King

Boulevard (formerly 2 Street) in the pavilion area. Park along the street.
Notes: There are four sculptures on the corner of Trade and Tryon Streets. The figure of a
woman holding a child represents the Future of the city. Commerce is symbolized by a gold miner
spilling money on the head of a banker. The face of the banker is modeled after Federal Reserve
Chairman Alan Greenspan. Industry is represented by a woman in a bonnet, symbolizing the mills
and early industry of the area. View these beautiful sculptures on one end of the block and cheer
on the Walkers at the other end – South Tryon and Martin Luther King Boulevard!
Panthers Stadium (mile 2.8)
800 South Mint Street
Peak Viewing Times: 7:15 am - 9:00 am

Directions: Cheering Station is located by the panther statues outside of the east gate of the
Stadium.
Notes: The Stadium opened in 1996 and can seat more than 73,000 people. The panther statues
at the east gate entrance weigh more than 2,000 pounds each. Those are some big panthers and
they can help you cheer!
Latta Park Playground (mile 4.7)
501 East Park Avenue
Peak viewing times: 8:30 am - 11:00 am

Directions: Cheering Station is located just outside of the playground. Park only in designated
spaces in Latter Park.
Notes: Latta Park in located in the center of historic Dilworth neighborhood, which was Charlotte’s
first street car neighborhood in 1891. No cars for these Avon Walkers on their 39.3 mile journey
– they are walkin’!

Directions: Parking is available in the location’s lot.
Notes: If you look behind you, you will see Carolinas Medical Center, also fondly known as the
2009 Avon Walk Charlotte Medical Sponsor! This flagship location of Carolinas Healthcare
System is one of the largest public nonprofit healthcare systems in the United States. Come
cheer on our Walkers – they’ve still got a way to go!!
Withers House, Queens University (mile 8.4)
1937 Selwyn Avenue
Peak viewing time: 9:00 am - 12:00 am

Directions: Cheering Station is in front of the house. Park in the Withers House lot.
Notes: Withers House is a historic landmark developed in the early 1920s and represents the
social movement of the cities’ elite away from the city center. The University is in the famous
Myers Park neighborhood – a great spot to bring your family and friends to support the Avon
Walkers. Go Walkers Go!
KinderCare Learning Center (mile 9.7)
1700 Providence Road
Peak viewing times: 9:30 am - 1:30 pm

Directions: Cheering Station is in front of KinderCare in the parking lot. Park in the lot.
Notes: Bring the children to come out and support the Walkers as they approach the 10 mile mark
on Day 1. Even better – have the kids make encouraging signs beforehand to bring with you!
Ben and Jerry’s (mile 13.35)
7800 Fairview Road
Peak viewing times: 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Directions: Cheering Station is along the grassy knoll in front of Ben and Jerry’s on Fairview
Road. Please park in the strip mall where Ben and Jerry’s is located.
Notes: Grab an ice cream cone at Ben and Jerry’s and come out to cheer – nothing is better than
supporting the Avon Walk while enjoying a tasty treat! The Walkers will have just passed the
halfway point on Day 1!
Carmel Presbyterian Church (mile 15.2)
2048 Carmel Road
Peak viewing times: 11:30 am - 2:30 pm

Directions: Cheering Station is NOT at the Quick Stop. The Cheering Station is located on the
corner of Sharon View Road and Carmel Road. Please park using the Carmel Road lot entrance
behind the church.

Notes: The church is located in the South Park area of Charlotte which is the 3 largest business
district in the state. Can you cheer louder than the last cheering station??

Mediterra (mile 21)
3300 Carmel Road
Peak viewing times: 1:30 pm - 4:00pm

Directions: Cheering Station located in front of the entrance of Medittera. Please park along
neighborhood streets.
Notes: You’ll be standing on the newest housing development in South Park. The Walkers will
have walked more than 20 miles and they will need your enthusiasm and cheers! Help keep them
going!!
Old Towne Village (mile 22.3)
4100 Carmel Road
Peak viewing times: 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Directions: Cheering Station is near the Old Towne Village strip mall entrance and sign. Please
park in the shopping center’s lot.
Notes: Olde Town Village is home to a Starbucks. Stop in for your favorite cup of coffee to give
you the extra jolt you might need to enthusiastically cheer on our Walkers.
The Hamptons at Southpark (mile 23.4)
4401 Hamptonridge Drive
Peak viewing times: 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Directions: Cheering Station is located at entrance to Hamptons at Southpark apartment
complex. Please park in the apartment’s parking lot.
Notes: The complex is a hop, skip, and a jump from Southpark Mall which is Charlotte premier
shopping experience featuring Tiffany & Co., Burberry and many more! Once you’ve cheered
that last Walker through, go treat yourself to a little shopping spree!

Morrison Library (mile 2.2)

Peak viewing times: 8:00 am - 10:00 am

Directions: Cheering Station is located outside the library along Colony Road. Please park in the
library’s lot.
Notes: Morrison Library has the largest print collection in the branch system, 145,000+ volumes!
Our Walkers won’t be able to stop in, so come out and encourage them to keep on walking!
Selwyn Elementary School (mile 3.7)
2804 Colony Road
Peak viewing times: 8:30 am - 10:00 am

Directions: Cheering Station is located at the Selwyn Elementary sign at the corner of Colony
Road and Rockbrook/AG Jr. High School Drive. Please park in the school lot.
Notes: Selwyn is among the few public elementary schools in North Carolina to receive a
distinguished GreatSchools Rating of 10 out of 10. We know our Avon Walkers are an 11!

Bicycle Sport (mile 4.9)
2916 Selwyn Avenue
Peak viewing times: 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Directions: Cheering Station is located in the parking lot of Bicycle Sport. Please park in store’s
lot.
Notes: Bicycle Sport is located in the heart of the Booty Loop, a 2.8 mile hotspot for Charlotte
cyclists. No bicycles for our Avon Walkers! Their feet might be sore by this point so they will
need you to support them! Keep on cheering!!
Ed’s Tavern (mile 8.0)
2200 Park Road
Peak viewing times: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Directions: Cheering Station is in front of Ed’s Tavern. Please park in the lot.
Notes: Ed’s Tavern was named the best place to chill by Charlotte Magazine in 2009. So chill
here and enjoy cheering on the Walkers.
Latta Park Pavilion (mile 9.1)
606 East Park Avenue
Peak viewing times: 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

Directions: Cheering Station is in and around Latta Park Pavilion. Please park across the pavilion
in the allotted spaces.
Notes: Check out the water fountain behind the pavilion where water shoots out of the ground!

Peak viewing times: 10:30 am - 1:00 pm

Directions: Cheering Station is on the Berkley Street side of the building at the parking lot
entrance/exit. Please park in building’s parking lot.
Notes: Your motivation will brighten the Walker’s day as they finish the last 3 miles of the route!
Keep up the cheering – it keeps them going!!
Pearle Street Park (mile 10.4)
1200 Baxter Street
Peak viewing times: 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Directions: Cheering Station is in park. Please park in front of Pearle Street Park off of Kenilworth
Avenue.
Notes: Pearle Street Park faces the new Charlotte greenway. Enjoy the fun outdoors after
pumping up the Walkers as they are in the home stretch at this point.
