                         WRITER/GHOST WRITER AGREEMENT

This agreement is used when someone (Producer) wants to hire a writer/ghost writer (Writer) for
their writing services. The term ghost writer refers to the concept where a writer is paid to write
while the work is credited to another person.
The practice of ghost writing has been around forever. It is also used a whole lot more than you
think. Ghost writers produce writing and content, but do not hold any copyrights for their work.
This is also sometimes referred to as a “work-for-hire” arrangement.
The costs associated with hiring a writer or ghost writer vary greatly. There are websites where
people can bid on writing they need done, which are convenient. Often on these sites, writers
will work for incredibly low pay and the quality of the work is often low as well. On the other
hand, if you have a highly specialized topic, you can find quality niche writers for reasonable
prices.
Keep in mind that in the writing world, the price will be directly related to the quantity of work
to be produced. So when arriving at a price, keep in mind the quantity of work that is required.
It is common for a writer/ghost writer to be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement or to
have a similar clause in a writing contract. Ghost writers are usually not entitled to royalties.
                   Checklist for Writer/Ghost Writer Agreement
    1. Determine the quantity of work needed.

    2. Give the writer as much input as possible about the project (where will it be published,
what kind of audience will read it).

    3. Will research be required? That could be an extra expense to the publisher.

    4. Both parties should keep in mind that everything is negotiable.

    5. Have an understanding of the legal and business environment of the writing/publishing
       business.

    6. Take into account the needs of both the writer and the publisher.

    7. How will the writer be paid, by the project, by the page, or by the hour?

    8. The agreement should be signed by both parties, and two witnesses.
