Where do we go from here?

                         Curriculum Planning

Language Arts Literacy Mathematics Science

•Continue initiatives that have a direct impact on instructional
 practice in classrooms
•Focus on district assessments to make informed decisions on
 students
•Align district assessments to state assessments
•Teach test-taking skills and time limits in testing
What We Know From Data….

 to increase opportunities for critical reading
 to increase opportunities for students to
    experience open-ended analytical reading
    questions
 to teach specific units focused around targeted
    writing skills and craft
What We Know From Data……

 to instruct students how to pre-plan and draft
writing within a specific time limit
 to provide increased reading and writing
    activities in math (open-ended responses)
 to pace math units ensuring all units are
completed by the end of the year
 To integrate data analysis and problem solving
    throughout math units
Specific Goals
QAAR Goals
 Aligned to mathematics and literacy achievement
   – CRES
 55% AP in math at grade 4
 10% AP in language arts at grades 3-5
    – Cedar
          10% AP at grade 6
 90% overall proficiency at grades 6-8 math

 Extended days and team meetings more data driven
Language Arts Literacy

 Continued training with the writing and
    reading workshop approach

    – Quarterly Reading Samples
    – Spelling/Word Inventories
 Meetings scheduled to review data
Mathematics
 Continue training with Investigations at the elementary level
 New district assessments three times/year
 Scheduled meetings to review data
 Data regarding targeted instruction for different levels of learners
 Review of the math sequence and grouping structures at the
    middle school
 Increase opportunities for more students to take higher math
    courses (solid curriculum planning)
 Piloting new materials better aligned to state standards
Science

 Continued training at all levels
 Study best practices from other middle schools
as well as around the world
 Increase articulation across grade levels as we
examine the need for strong content as well as
    strong practice
 Will review new standards and assessment
information (to be released at the end of 2008)
Responsive Classroom, Service
Learning, The Arts

 Standardized test scores are not all we look at
    in our district
 RC and SL have solid research to demonstrate
the significant impact on student achievement
 Choice electives and visual and performing
arts also show a correlation to academic
    achievement
