The solution of today's complex scientific problems requires an ever increasing computing power within a fixed energy budget. These conflicting objectives have lead to hybrid computing systems like Roadrunner. The presentation describes the various hardware hybrid architectures with a focus on Cell blades (Hypernodes, Tri-blades) and GPUs. As for programming, we present and contrast the major programming models and development environments that are available today to develop scientific applications (Cell SDK, IBM DAV, CUDA, OpenCL, HMPP). Some of these have been put to work on a seismic processing application (data regularization) and we present some preliminary results and lessons learned. Managing power and energy of IT infrstaructure have become an important topic due to the rise in the energy costs. This presentation describes what features AEM is providing to manage power and the impact of such features like Power Save available on Power Systems. It presents also the impact on power and total energy consummed by workloads like SPECint and SPECcpu and real HPC applications.
