Hardware Requirements
AltaPoint Hardware Specification:
ALTAPOINT MEDICAL SYSTEM (WITHOUT EMR) Client: A workstation or stand-alone machine that can efficiently run Windows NT/2000/XP Pro. A Pentium 4 better is recommended with at least 2 Gig of RAM, 2 Gig or better enhances your performance. Windows XP Home, Windows ME and Windows Vista Home cannot be used on any version of AltaPoint. Windows 98 is no longer supported by Microsoft and, although it has worked with AltaPoint in the past, is no longer recommended for general office use. Servers: Servers should effectively run Windows 2003 Server, Windows NT/2000/XP Pro, Novell 4/5, or Linux Distribution with a 2.2 Kernel or higher. A Pentium 4 or better is recommended with at least 1to 4 Gig of RAM. Please specify the server's operating system at the time of ordering.

AltaPoint Hardware Specification:
ALTAPOINT EMR In order to provide a meaningful hardware specification, we present the following, not as a minimum system needed to run our software, but rather, a minimum prudent system to run any EMR at a medical practice. Emphasis is placed on keeping your data safe and available. Therefore, we present two minimum server specifications; one for a production database server and one for a backup server that can be immediately brought into use should the primary server suffer a hardware failure.
Processor:
Primary Server Minimum: Pentium 4 Class Processor. Backup Server Minimum: Pentium 4 Class Processor. Note: If you will be using terminal services, add 100 Mhz or greater per user to both of these values. The database server will take advantage of multiple processors.
Memory:
Primary Server Minimum: 4 Gig or greater of memory. Note: If you will be using terminal services, add 32 Megabytes per users on the primary server.
Fixed Storage:
Primary Server Minimum: Two 100 Gigabyte drives in a RAID-1 configuration or Three 60 Gigabyte drives in a RAID-5 configuration. Hot swappable drives are recommended but not required. This is just a suggestion other configurations can work. Note: If you will be doing any kind of imaging, we recommend 250 Gigabytes initially.

Operating System: Recommended: Windows 2000/2003 Server Edition. Also Supported: Linux Distribution with a 2.2 Kernel or higher, Novell NetWare 4 or higher. Note: If you will have more than 10 clients, Microsoft licensing may require Windows 2000/2003 Server edition. Network: Minimum: 10 Megabit Ethernet. Recommended: 100 Megabit Ethernet. Note: While we do support wireless networking, be aware that with 10 Megabit Ethernet or Wireless networks, there may be noticeable performance degradation. Power Backup: Required: An un-interruptible power supply (UPS) capable of running the main server for at least 15 minutes. Printer: Minimum: Ink Jet/Bubble Jet style printer. Recommended: Laser printer. Note: Multifunction printers (fax/copier/printer) often cause problems due to the nature of their drivers. They are not recommended. Note: You may also need a dot matrix printer if you desire to print older tractor-fed forms such as preprinted HCFA forms. Clients: Minimum: PC’ s configured with 2000, XP Pro or Vista Ultimate Recommended: A Pentium 4 or better with at least 1 Gig of RAM. Note: Thin client machines offer no moving parts, a small footprint and preloaded (RDP) software. They are inexpensive and offer a high security, simple solution for most office purposes. Hand held thin clients (e.g. NEC 880 machines, Pocket PC’ s and the like) offer easy access from the exam room, home, hospital and, indeed, anywhere on earth with an internet connection.
