I. Introduction to Word
   A. Newly installed MathType
After installing MathType, the first time you open Word you will get this pop–up

Always trust macros from this publisher >> Enable Macros

     B. Menu Bar Drop Downs
The Menu Bar is your main toolbar.

Go to Tools >>Customize … >> Options…>> Always show full menus

     C. Page Set–Up
Go To File >> Page Setup … I like these margins so I can fit more materials on a page.

Click on Default … and these will be your margins every time you open Word

     D. Turning off Bullets and Numbering
One of the most frustrating parts of Word is the fact that it will automatically start numbering.

The quickest way to fix: When an unwanted number appears IMMEDIATELY back space two times.
This will turn numbering back off.

Go To Format >> Bullets and Numbering >> None to turn off. You may still get the numbering
because Word thinks it’s smarter than you.

     E. View
As you become proficient in Word and put more and more graphics into your documents a problem may
arise – a graphic does not appear on your computer screen.

Go To View >> Print Layout and all your work will appear on your screen.

     F. Symbols and Short Cuts
A math teachers we use a lot of symbols not on the keyboard. With shortcuts you can quickly get
     symbols like , , , , —, etc.

Go To Insert >> Symbol… and find the symbol you want.

          Click on Shortcut Key …
          Choose keys for this shortcut.
For degree I held down the Alt key with Ctrl key and the letter D.
For division () I choose Ctrl + the letter D.
Note: When I picked Alt+Ctrl+D it replaced the computer’s default shortcut for Inserting End Notes. I
never use this shortcut so I don’t mind changing.

You Try It: Create a shortcut for 

     G. Exponents and Subscripts
In math we have enough exponents and subscripts a shortcut key would be very useful.

Go To View >> Toolbars >> Customize …

Click On Commands Tab on top

Scroll down until you see Superscript

Click and hold onto Superscript and drag to the light gray areas on your toolbar. Repeat for Subscript.

          You try it.
          Type in the function f(x) = 3x4 + 2x3 – 7x2 + 1 then change to f(x) = 3x4 + 2x3 – 7x2 + 1

If you hold the Ctrl key you can highlight many numbers and change them to exponents
          at the same time.

          Type in (3x3 + 2x2 – 9x) – (4x4 + 8x3 – 6x2). Hold the ctrl key and highlight each of the five exponents
          and change to exponents (3x3 + 2x2 – 9x) – (4x4 + 8x3 – 6x2)
