The Financial Management and Administration Centre in UNICEF Supply Division, Copenhagen is seeking
a dedicated

                                    SENIOR ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT
                                               GS-6 level
                                      1-year Fixed Term Position


PURPOSE OF POST:

Under the supervision of the Accounting Officer, responsible for financial accounting, funds
management and reporting in support of procurement activities for the Global Alliance for Vaccine and
Immunization (GAVI).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES, DUTIES & TASKS:

1. Performs financial accounting and analysis for GAVI procurement activities. Processes, reviews and
   analyzes the FLS and VISION transactions, payments and account balances for area of responsibility,
   and identifies and initiates required adjustments.

2. Creates, reviews and maintains master data in VISION. Creates Grants, Ceilings and Project
   Accounts, and establishes budget planning limitations in accordance with Decision Letters and funds
   availability. Recommends budget revisions in accordance with MOUs and UNICEF’s Financial Rules
   and Regulations. Monitors project accounts for compliance with financial limitations.

3. Maintains master data in Access database within area of responsibility, ensuring reconciliation with
   master data in VISION. Monitors financial and programme implementation against approvals,
   ceilings and limitations.

4. Develops and prepares financial reports for internal management and external donors and other
   third parties. Prepares exception and/or periodic reports, statements, schedules summaries analysis
   and document work papers relating to areas of responsibility. Reviews financial requests prior to
   submission to external partners to ensure compliance with funding limitations and initiates
   revisions. Prepares funding requests to external partners as required.
5. Monitors and ensures systems and reports comply with UNICEF’s Financial Rules and Regulations,
   and third party requirements.

6. Identifies and recommends system and process improvements. Participates in the design, testing
   and implementation of new or revised systems changes or upgrades. Designs Excel spreadsheets
   and Access databases to support the monitoring of activities.

7. Ensures periodic and yearend closure procedures are completed in a timely and accurate manner,
   such as executing monthly costing run, Monthly reconciliations, Resource Related Billing and
   settlement in VISION (SAP) for areas of responsibility.

8. Performs other ad hoc tasks in related areas as required and provide back up support to colleagues
   within the unit.


QUALIFICATIONS OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:

Education & Work Experience: Secondary education and commercial courses in accounting. University
level courses in accounting, business or public administration are highly desirable.
A minimum of (7) years of broad and successful accounting experience, preferably in an international /
governmental (non-profit) organization in a highly computerized environment. Experience in the areas
of project and/or trust fund accounting would be an asset.

Technical Competencies & Languages: Good knowledge of computerized accounting application
systems and MS Office package, particularly MS Access and Excel. Knowledge of SAP highly desirable.
Analytical skills and ability to prepare useful accounting reports both for external partners and
management and to prepare regular and ad hoc reconciliations. Good project management skills would
be an asset. Knowledge of IFRS/IPSAS would be an asset.
Fluency in English. Another UN working language would be an asset.
