            Rhythm
• The rise and fall of our voices as we
  use language

• Ex: Day after day, day after day,
      We stuck, nor breath or motion;
      As idle as a painted ship
      Upon a painted ocean.
        Rhyme
• the repetition of the
  sound of a stressed
  syllable
• Example: court and sport,
 smother and another
           Alliteration
•   the repetition of consonant sounds in
    words that are close together
•   Example: “A Tutor” (repetition of t
    sounds)
     A tutor who tooted the flute
     Tried to tutor two tooters to toot.
     Said the two to the tutor,
     “Is it harder to toot, or
     To tutor two tooters to toot?”
    Onomatopoeia
• the use of words with
  sounds that echo their
  sense
• Example: crash, bang,
