As an independent consultant, created outreach and business development strategies for a
number of clients including national and local not-for-profit groups and advocacy programs, an
international telecommunications company, numerous IT firms, government contractors and
Internet companies. Additionally, wrote strategic plans and marketing campaigns, website
content, and informational materials. Coached clients in areas such as public speaking,
message development and interviewing techniques. Developed branding and grassroots
strategies to reach disparate groups and initiated strategic partnerships to support brand
equity and confidence and grow business. Planned and leveraged special events and outreach

    Stepped in as interim public relations/project manager for AT&T’s mid-Atlantic

    philanthropic and policy related goals. Represented AT&T in charitable initiatives with

   Successfully planned and implemented several high-level philanthropic events for AT&T
   within the arts and education communities, which were attended by local and federal
   policymakers, Supreme Court Justices and corporate leaders.
   Strategically planned and organized national and local AT&T volunteer activities, which
   included working with groups such as Greater DC Cares, Race for the Cure, DC Kitchen, et al.
   Initiated and developed strategic relationships between internet client, SKOOLDES, and
   commercial and advocacy partners that lead to new corporate sponsorships, distribution
   deals with Internet Services Providers and Original Equipment Manufacturers, and brand
   support among key audiences.

   Garnered favorable media coverage for largest agency client, RUSK, in national publications
   including Elle, Glamour, Vogue, Redbook, Allure, Cosmopolitan, and Good Housekeeping.

Director of Communications and Partnerships
Orphan Foundation of America (OFA), Reston, VA., October 1994 - September 1997
Led fundraising and communications efforts for this national non-profit organization
addressing the unique needs of parentless teens. Successfully identified and developed media
and outreach opportunities. Implemented action to secure funding relationships and raise
awareness of the issues of older foster youth. Grew and strengthened partnerships with
multiple stakeholders including policy makers and political groups, government agencies,
community groups, corporations, volunteers and the media.
Key Accomplishments:
    Fundraising efforts lead to numerous new funding sources for OFA’s national scholarship
    for foster youth, as well as several long-term relationships with national foundations that
    are still in place today and increased work place participation in the Combined Federal
    Campaign (CFC) through America’s Charities. OFA went from less than $100,000 annual
    budget to more than $1 million during this period.
    Wrote press releases and developed story ideas that resulted in articles in publications such
    as Parade Magazine, New York Times, C-Span, Washington Post, et al, which resulted in
    increased donations and new funding streams.
    Organized and leveraged numerous special events including fundraisers and weeklong
    sessions for foster-youth on Capitol Hill that included media and leadership training,
    Congressional Q & A sessions, meetings with representatives, publicity opportunities and
    receptions convened to build relationships between OFA’s educational efforts and
    congressional policymakers.
