PERSPECTUS AND PHILOSOPHY St. Catherine of Sienna Episcopal Church Mother’s Day Out & Day School Program believes that each child is a unique individual created by God. We stress Christian principles and values while respecting the beliefs of other faith traditions. Parents are the primary and most important providers of care and nurturing. We believe parents and teachers are partners in the care and education of children. By working together we can make our children’s early childhood years a time of wonder, growth and learning. We value the optimum development of the whole child – social, emotional, physical, cognitive, spiritual and creative. Our program is designed to meet individual developmental needs of children through low child/staff ratios, professionally trained and nurturing staff and developmentally appropriate curriculum. Daily schedules include opportunities to create, explore the environment, and learn problem solving and personal interaction skills. Concepts are learned through play and hands-on experience. We utilize a variety of learning theories and methods including Montessori, Piaget and Fowler.

ENROLLMENT St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program is open to children 2 – 5 years old. Children are enrolled on a first-come, first serve basis. Others are placed on a waiting list and accommodated as space becomes available. Admission of exceptional children, children with disabilities, etc., is decided on an individual basis as qualified staffing permits.

HOURS OF OPERATION St. Catherine’s MDO program is open from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Mondays – Fridays, and follows the Fort Bend ISD School Calendar. Our Bridge and Kindergarten classes begin ½ hour earlier at 9:00 a.m. Punctuality is a crucial element in the operation of our programs and insuring that the children receive the maximum benefit from their time with us. Please be conscientious of your child’s schedule. Your little one, as well as our staff, appreciates prompt pick-up of your child. A child’s play is his or her work and after a long day at the “office” they are ready to go home and receive the TLC that only family members can provide. Please keep in mind; our staff has prior commitments such as classes, church, and family responsibilities. Late pick-up fees are $10 per child from 2:31 p.m. to 2:40 p.m. and one dollar per minute thereafter. Late pick-up fees are due and payable in cash at the time of pick-up. Our doors will be open from 8:50 – 10:00 a.m. and again from 2:00 – 2:45 p.m. for drop-off and pick-up.

STANDARDS St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program adheres to a rigid enforcement of regulations that meet or exceed the minimum standards in childcare. These standards relate to our physical facility, staff, health and safety procedures, nutrition, and record keeping. We support high standards in childcare as they are in the best interest of the children in our care.

DISCIPLINE In keeping with St. Catherine’s principles of holistic child development and in accordance with the Minimum Standards governing childcare, corporal punishment is prohibited in all church programs, including the Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program. Consistent and age appropriate discipline that utilizes positive reinforcement, redirection and praise is employed to maintain a happy and orderly environment for our children and staff. You will be given and asked to sign a copy of St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out or Day School Program Discipline and Guidance Policy prior to your child beginning the program.

FINANCIAL POLICIES TUITION Monthly Tuition is due on the first day of each month. A $10 late charge is added each day after the 2nd of each month. Your full tuition is due whether or not your child is in attendance. There are no reductions in tuition due to vacation, illness, holidays or bad weather days. Even if the church and our programs are closed on the 1st of the month your tuition is still due on or before the 1st day of each month. Tuition must be current in order for care to be provided in subsequent weeks. If enrollment is dropped due to failure to stay current with tuition, a student may re-enroll (if space is available) by paying full registration fee, supply fee, any outstanding balance and the next month’s tuition.

REGISTRATION FEE The $150.00 registration fee is an annual fee, at initial registration and again each August. The registration fee is per family and covers all children enrolled in our programs.

SUPPLY FEE There is an annual supply fee of $150.00 per child. This fee is due on the first day that your child begins attending St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out or Day School Program.

WITHDRAWAL POLICY Written notice of intent to withdraw a child from St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out or Day School Program must be submitted two weeks in advance. No refund of tuition paid for the remainder of the child’s last month in attendance will be given.

ABSENCES St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program base our operating cost on annual enrollment projections. In order to continually assure the highest quality of staff personnel, equipment, and supplies, we cannot offer tuition reductions for absences due to illness, vacations, holidays or bed weather days, etc.

GENERAL POLICIES CLOTHING Please be sure that your child’s name is clearly marked on articles of clothing, especially jackets and sweaters, so that we can minimize the loss of personal belongings. In the event your child does misplace an item, please notify us promptly. Items left unclaimed in our “Lost and Found” are donated to charity at the end of the year. Dress your child for action! Children should arrive at school completely dressed in street clothes with shoes and socks. No pajamas or slippers please. Clothing should be comfortable, easy for child to manage (buttons in front, elastic waist, etc.) and appropriate for messy activities such as art and crafts and outdoor recreation. Sneakers and other soft-sole shoes are advised for the prevention of injuries. Parents are also asked to dress appropriately when dropping off and picking up children. Children learn by example and you are their first teacher. By dressing for success you are setting an important example for the children and letting them know that school is important. We ask that all children have a change of clothing and a supply of disposable diapers and diaper wipes (if appropriate). Children younger than Kindergarten age, will also need a nap mat and sleeping bag/blanket for rest time that will fit neatly into their cubbies (12” x 18”).

PERSONAL BELONGINGS Children are welcome to bring a soft toy or cuddly, a small blanket and/or a small pillow to be used during naptime or for security. All other toys are to be left at home. St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program provides an ample supply of toys, learning tools, and developmental materials to meet your child’s daily needs. Please leave all toys, pets, and money at home. All children share the materials in our classrooms as part of their learning experience. Children have more fun and participate more fully in activities when they are not concerned about having personal belongings lost or broken. It is also distressing for a child to misplace or lose money and difficult for the teacher to identify the owner.

BIRTHDAYS Every child’s birthday calls for a special celebration. Parents are welcome to bring special snacks in recognition of a festive occasion; however, we request advance notice. We also ask that the opening of gifts be reserved for home. Parties are held during the child’s snack time.

DROP-OFF The staff of St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program assumes total responsibility for your child when you leave the center each morning. Please park in spaces provided in the lot while you accompany your child inside. Parents are required to accompany their child in to the classroom. While this may result in an occasional emotional upset, parents should take comfort in knowing that these cries have usually ended by the time they reach the front door. Learning and activities take place as soon as school begins at 9:00 or 9:30 a.m. You must sign your child in every day that your child attends St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program. You must initial next to your child’s name on the appropriate date and write in the time of drop-off and again at pick-up.

PICK-UP Please remember that from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. our undivided attention must be focused on the children. When picking up your child please feel free to come in and let them tell you about their day and show you what they did. This is also a better time for parent/teacher communication. St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program will only release children to those persons designated by each child’s parent. The staff requires proper identification (such as a valid Texas Drivers License or state identification card) from any unfamiliar persons picking up a child prior to the release of the child to their care. Please make the staff of St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program aware of any changes in your normal pick-up routine prior to pick-up.

OPENING AND CLOSING St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program will be open Monday thru Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (with staff members arriving one half hour prior to opening and remaining one half hour later) following the Fort Bend Independent School District Calendar.

VISITING Our staff recognizes the value of parent involvement in their child’s day. We encourage you to visit often but to keep in mind that it is necessary for the teachers’ attention to be focused on all of the children at all times and that children function best when they have a set routine. For our children’s safety, the church doors will be locked during the school day between dropoff and pick-up times. There is a buzzer outside the front doors that you can ring during normal business hours for admittance. In accordance with Texas State Law, St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program has regular scheduled emergency drills. It is crucial to the safety of the children that they learn proper emergency evacuation procedures. In our effort to simulate emergency conditions during fire drills, everyone is required to exit the building, dressed as they are, for a few minutes. You will not be able to enter the facility while a fire drill is being conducted. If you arrive during such a drill, please wait patiently until the drill has been completed.

EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION In the unlikely event that the church building is severely damaged or declared unsafe, the staff will evacuate the children to a designated emergency shelter to await the arrival of the parent or guardian. Should such an emergency occur, the Director would notify all parents at the emergency contact number in each child’s file.

HEALTH POLICIES IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS In accordance with state requirements, St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program requires each parent to submit a doctor’s certificate of health and immunization record upon enrollment. These records are kept on permanent file in the church office and must be updated as your child receives immunizations.

MEDICATION The staff of St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program will administer medications to children requiring them at 11:30 a.m. only. Each day that a child is required to take medication at St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program, parents must complete a “Medication Authorization Form” which can be obtained from the church office. According to state licensing requirements, the medication must be kept in its original container and clearly state the following information: Prescription Medication – administered only as prescribed at the above time a. Child’s name b. Doctor’s name c. Prescribed dosage Over-the-counter Medication – administered according to label instructions a. Child’s name St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program stores all medication in a secure place, well out of the reach of children. We provide refrigerated storage when necessary. Please do not leave any medication in your child’s diaper bag or backpacks. Sign all medication in and drop it off at the church office. We maintain records of the amount dispensed, and the name of the staff person who administered the medication. Medicines will be returned to you or properly disposed of when they are no longer required by your child.

ILLNESS While we take precautions to protect your child against illness, most children experience a normal number of infections and illnesses throughout the year. In such cases we will notify you if it is necessary to take your child home or to go to the doctor in order for them to return. If your child is sent home from St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program, an “Authorization to Return to School Form” must be returned with your child’s physician signature stating the diagnosis, that the child is not contagious, and that he/she can participate in all of our programs’ activities. If you choose not to acquire a doctor’s release, your child must be symptom free for at least 48 hours without the use of medication to mask any and all symptoms.

Please respect the health and safety of all our children. Keep your child at home if they have displayed any of the following symptoms in the past 24 hours: temperature exceeding 100.4 degrees F vomiting diarrhea (3 or more times or a BM which is not contained) rash barking cough pink eyes yellow or green eye drainage You will be called and asked to pick-up your child from St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program if we notice any of the above symptoms as well as any other symptoms that we feel could indicate that your child is ill. Should your child become exposed to an infectious disease at our facility, we will notify you promptly. In return, we request that you report to us when you child has been exposed to a particular infection or disease outside of our programs. Please keep in mind that these policies are strictly adhered to and enforced for the children’s safety and well-being. These are state standards that childcare centers are required by law to adhere to.

INCIDENT REPORTS Although every effort is taken to provide for the absolute safety of your child while in our care, accidents do happen from time to time. Should any incident occur that causes injury to a child or places a child at risk, an incident report will be filled-out and a copy signed by the Director given to the parent for review and signature when the child is picked-up. If an incident occurs that results in serious injury to a child, the Director will contact the parent immediately.

MEDICAL EMERGENCIES In the event that your child experiences a medical emergency while in St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program, medical attention will be sought immediately and you will be notified of the situation and where your child has been taken for treatment.

KEEPING RECORDS CURRENT In order to provide emergency medical care to the children of St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program, we require signed authorization by each child’s parent or legal guardian. These forms contain vital information about each child such as parent’s office and home phone numbers and addressees; and the name, address, and phone number of the child’s physician. This form must be kept current and on file as long as the child is enrolled in St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program. Please notify us immediately of any changes. It is very important that you keep your child’s immunizations up to date and that you keep the church office informed of any shots received after enrollment. All allergies need to be on record with the center.

NUTRITION Good nutrition is an essential ingredient in our total childcare program. Parents are required to provide a wholesome and healthy lunch for their child/children. Parent’s are also asked to provide individually-packaged snacks for their child/children to be served daily. St. Catherine’s Mother’s Day Out and Day School Program can no longer assume responsibility for providing snacks for our children due to an ever-increasing incidence of food allergies and other special needs. We believe that parents are the best judges of what is the most appropriate snack for their child/children. We utilize mealtime to instill in children at an early age the long-term benefits and joy of healthy eating habits. We make a special effort to encourage the children to sample new foods and cultivate a taste for those that are nutritionally beneficial. Please inform our staff if there are any foods or drinks that your child should not be given. All foods are served in the classroom and teachers eat with the children.
