                Sample Mayoral/Gubernatorial Proclamation Cover Letter

Dear [Mayor/Governor]:
According to Gallup Consulting and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 64 percent of counterfeit
electrical products in the United States are purchased from legitimate shops and retailers. More
than one million counterfeit electrical products have been recalled in recent years, including
extension cords, power strips, batteries, and hair dryers. Every day, counterfeit electrical products
are finding their way into our homes, businesses, and public institutions. These fraudulent items
pose serious safety hazards, and if left undetected can cause deaths, injuries and substantial
property loss in the home and the workplace.
As part of an ongoing effort to stop counterfeiting, [Organization/Company Name] has joined
with the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) in a national awareness campaign to
educate the public about these dangerous products and how to protect against them.
In May, ESFI kicks off National Electrical Safety Month to remind citizens about the simple steps
we can take to protect the safety and welfare of the American public by helping to increase
awareness of electrical hazards in the home and the workplace. Education and recognition among
consumers, families, and communities will save lives and prevent electrically related fires,
fatalities, and injuries.
[Organization/Company Name] is proud to be an integral part of moving this important
initiative forward, promoting a healthy respect for electricity and the safe use of electrical
products. Your National Electrical Safety Month Proclamation will serve as a powerful example,
and will help to further enhance public awareness and participation. Please join us in this
important effort.

Respectfully,

[Your Name/Title]
