									LENDERS FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
SAMPLE MARKETING LETTER TO
UNIVERSITIES

I am writing to offer SCHOOL NAME access to a nonprofit grant program (the IDA program) to
help students pay for educational expenses. There is no cost for your school to participate and the
staff time commitment is minimal. The IDA program can assist SCHOOL NAME in helping
financially-needy students succeed in higher education.

About the program
The IDA (Individual Development Account) program is a matched savings account program for
working, low-income students. For every $1 a student saves, they receive $2 in matching
grant funds – up to $4,000 total grant. Grant funds can be used for tuition, fees, books and
supplies at accredited post-secondary institutions. Over 500 Bay Area students have participated
in our IDA program in the past 6 years. The IDA program is offered by the nonprofit organization
Lenders for Community Development and funded by a combination of public and private sources.

Enclosed please find a general brochure on the IDA program as well as a list of Frequently
Asked Questions regarding the program and our organization.

Ways to participate
 Less involvement: Display brochures on the IDA program in your office (simply call or
email me to request a box sent to your office). Consider training staff to give brochures to
       eligible students.
 More involvement: Host an “orientation” meeting on campus and invite eligible
students. An LCD staff member will explain the program for students at a convenient
       time, including evenings.

Please contact me as soon as possible if you are would like to offer this program to your
students. We currently have funds to offer IDAs for 300 students on a first-come, first-
served basis.

I hope to work with you to bring this innovative program to SCHOOL NAME’S students.

Sincerely,
