“Think as a scientist…record as a scientist…reflect as a scientist!” Why should you keep a notebook?:
To develop organizational skills. To develop critical thinking skills. To express understanding of concepts creatively. To model the importance of writing as an essential component of good scientific inquiry. To create a portfolio of what you’ve learned.
How will your notebook be assessed?: o Notebook checks/quizzes and self-assessments
How should you set up your notebook?:
Decorate the cover with scientific images to make it special. Create a title page including: Course, period, your name, teacher. Leave the first 5 pages blank for the Table of Contents. Number all pages in advance, odd pages on right, even pages on left. Tear NO pages out. Create a title page for each new unit. Tape all handouts in when you get them. Date and title all entries. Organize as you go, so your work makes sense. Write clearly. Protect your valuable notebook in a folder or Ziplock bag.
