                                ASC-CA Chapter 20 MISSION STATEMENT
“To promote professionalism throughout our industry by upholding our state code of ethics and sharing our successes and
failures with our members and future members” . “To elevate and unite automotive professionals and give them a voice”.

Chapter 20 - Welcome to April. I hope March was a busy and productive month for all of you members. The rain
at the end of the month was an added bonus for me. My sales always increase when the weather gets wet.
March was a busy month for Chapter 20. Our March meeting was again fantastic. We
opened up with Craig Johnson, our ASCCA Gov't Affairs Chairperson. Craig's pride,
focus and vision on Gov't Affairs issues along with his radar screen is the best!! BAR
none!! Craig does an outstanding job for the ASCCA membership keeping us informed
of anything new. Great Job Craig !!!!
Following Craig, we were honored to have Deputy BAR Chief Pat Dorais and
Engineer Garrett Torgenson explain to us how the Smog Check program is changing
to be a directed STAR program. For those who are a current Smog Check station be
sure and go onto the BAR website and check your STAR program and your company
and technician rating. If needed, you have approximately 8 months to improve your
                                                                                     ASCCA Government Affairs
station and technician scores. Committee Chair, Craig
On March 28, I along with Mary & Dave Kemnitz Johnson
attended the BAR License Restructuring and OBD II equipment update work-
shop. This workshop was highly attended at Chabot College and discussed the
implementation plans for the restructured Smog Check licensing program.
This was followed up by a power point presentation and Q & A forum on draft
regulations to authorize new Smog Check equipment and inspection
procedures. We at Chapter 20 will be gathering any new information as it
Jeff Stich with Pat Dorais, Deputy becomes available to us. Stay tuned in the coming months. I encourage all of
BAR Chief, and Garrett Torgerson, us to bookmark the BAR website page @ www.smogcheck.ca.gov.

For April your calendar is going to be crazy full of events. On April 9th in
Contra Costa County, the Hazardous Materials Program is allowing an opportunity for us to comment on the new
proposed haz mat fees. This will allow us to voice our opinions on how these up-spiraling fees are affecting each of
our businesses. Time and location information is posted in the newsletter.
On April 18 is Leg Day. This full day event is the perfect opportunity to meet with your Legislators to express
concerns with what is going on with your businesses and in your communities. We will have the opportunity to
meet the new BAR Chief, John Wallauch; Doug Balatti, Assistant Chief; & Pat Dorais, Deputy Chief. We will
review priority legislation & issues with Jack Molodanof, our ASCCA legislative advocate, meet Assembly Member
Curt Hagman, Assistant Republican Floor Leader, Senator Juan Vargas, 40th Senate District, Assembly Member
Katcho Achadjian, Higher Education Committee, then have Legislative appointments, or attend committee
hearings. Contact Monique Rice at 916.924.9054 x107 at the ASCCA office right away for more info.
On April 19 is Chapter 20's Vendor Fair. This is going to be pure MAGIC. The list of attending Vendors is off the
charts. Here you will have the chance to speak directly to the mfg reps and see what is new with them. So please
be sure to come early and meet and mingle with other shop owners and mfg reps.
