Social Networking Worksheet
The Steps of Social Networking:
1. The Three Es: Explore, Establish + Expand
• Establish your basic profile. • Find already-known friends and view their connections, groups, links, friends, followers, etc, and click to explore the connections and possibilities in an unstructured way. • Look at the Settings, Profile, and FAQ sections of the network, and relate to what you see on the profiles of the people youʼre exploring; this is a more structured form of exploring. • As you return to this step, explore more so that you establish and expand your profile, network, and connections.
2. Initiate Connections and Content
• Follow, link to, or send requests to people and groups known to you. • Post interesting, non-promotional material. • Comment, retweet, and share content and information that comes to you (this step often overlaps with the following).
3. Receive, Engage + Monitor
• • • • • • Check posts, inbox, messages, etc.. Scan, read, or donʼt read, as appropriate. Reply or act upon, or not, as appropriate. Check incoming connection/friend requests and followers. Reply or act upon, or not, as appropriate. Communicate and engage!
4. Review, Analyze + Plan
• Consider your connections, the quantity and quality of information you've shared, the types of interactions you have, the time you've spent social networking, and other factors. • Look at your social networking and business goals, and consider and plan what you might need to change in your plan, your activities, or your goals. • Go back to the first step of exploring, establishing and expanding and start the cycle again. • Review, analyze and plan on a daily, weekly, monthly, and long-term basis.
