Friday, February 12, 2010 Welcome to the “rich coast,” freindly land of democracy and rare natural beauty. With naturalist guides, see exotic birds and wildlife, hike in jungle rainforests, view volcanoes, soak in hot springs and cruise through biological reserves. Relax on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. After arrival at the San Jose airport be transferred to your hotel for a two night stay. Rooms are available for check-in after 3:00 PM. Dine at your hotel. Welcome briefing at 8:00 P.M. Meals: D Saturday, February 13, 2010 After breakfast, see the statue of the drummer boy, Costa Rico’s hero. weather permitting, visit Poas Volcano, dormant since 1991. You can safely view this dramitic mile-wide crater from the overlook. Enjoy lunch. Next, see San Jose’s Plaza de la Cultura, Central Park, and the National Theatre. Vistit the Meals: B, L, D the National Museum. Enjoy dinner.

Sunday, February, 14, 2010 Scenic morning drive through Braulio Carrillo Park. Look at cascading waterfalls. Then, a thrilling adventure into the heart of the rainforest. Glide through the jungle canopy on the world famous rainforest aerial tram, rated one of Costa Ricas’s top tourist attractions. Next, with a naturalist guide, enjoy a short rainforest hike on level terrain. Enjoy lunch. Visit a butterfly garden. Then, cruise through rivers & canals to the 47,000 acre Tortuguero National Park. Torguero is home to more than 300 species of birds. Look for toucans, parrots, kingfishers and the rare green macaw. Enjoy a two night stay at your lodge. After dinner in Tortuguero, a naturalist talks about the rainMeals: B, L, D forest. Monday, February, 15, 2010 Cruise this morning with naturalist guides along the canals lined by rafia palm, habitat of howler and white-faced monkeys, green iguanas and tropical birds. Then, enter the mysterious reflecting waters of Cano Palma wildlife reserve. Next, visit the Greeen Turtle Research Station. Walk along the Atlantic turtle nesting beaches. Next to Toruguero village. Meet Costa Rican school children on your visit to a local school. Return to your lodge for lunch. Free time to enjoy your lodges swimming pool and tropical flower garden. Enjoy an afternoon boat excursion into Tortuguero Park. Meals: B, L, D Tuesday, February, 16, 2010 Morning cruise on Tortuguero River. See a banana plantation. Lunch, then a brief stop at Selva Verde Rainforest Reserve. Here you can walk the nearly 300 foot long suspension bridge over a jungle river. Next, through scenic countryside to the San Carlos Valley for a two night stay in Fortuna. Meals: B, L, D Wednesday, February, 17, 2010 Head North this morning, passing through sugar cane, teak and orange plantations. Then , cruise on the Rio Frio which runs through the world famous Cano Negro wildlife refuge. Home to many migratory birds found nowhere else in Costa Rica. Watch for caimans, spider monkeys and water-walking lizards. Lunch. Return to Fortuna. Free time to explore this charming village. Then, enjoy a relaxing soak in the volcanic hot springs. Wheather permitting, see nearby Arenal Volcano’s softly flowing lava flow. Enjoy dinner. Meals: B, L, D Thursday, February, 18, 2010 This morning, drive by the Children’s Eternal Rainforest, part of the Monteverde cloud forest region. Next, enter a cloud forest reserve, home to epiphytes, orchids, ferns and tropical birds, for a guided walk. Cloud forests are like rainforests, but with less rain and more humidity. After a visit to the hummingbird feeding gallery and lunch, we will depart for the Central Pacific Coast for a two night stay. Meals: B, L, D Friday, February, 19, 2010 This Morning drive by the Carara Biological Reserve. This tropical bird and wildlife santuary is one of the worlds few nesting places of the scarlet macaw. Then, visit Manuel Antonia, Costa Rica’s most beautiful park. Time to beachcomb or swim at the three pristine Meals: B, L, D beaches, rated among the top ten in the world. Saturday, February, 20, 2010 Morning visit to Sarchi. See the painted ox carts and colorful handicrafts. Enjoy lunch. Next, see the metallic church of Grecia. Then visit a coffee plantation. Payment: Initial Deposit:$500 per person. Full payment: Due 60 days prior to departure Additional Terms & Conditions Luggage: Due to space limitations, only one normal sized piece of luggage, weighing up to approximately 50 pounds, may be brought per person. In addition, one small handbag may be personally carried. LDS Group Travel is not responsible for loss or damage to your belongings and strongly recommends not traveling with expensive jewelry or other valuables. Gratuities: This tour includes all tips for local guides, restaurant waiters and hotel maids. Tips for the tour director and bus driver are not included. Passports and Visas: Travel to Costa Rica requires a US passport valid for 6 months after date of entry. Non US citizen, must check on visa and passport requirements for their country. Not Included: Prices do not included air travel, country entry or departure fees, airport porter fees, visas, phones, valet, all items of a personal nature and beverages and food not on the regular menu. In addition, there is a 24 hour worldwide assistance service for medical or legal emergencies. The travel protection plan is non-refundable and non-transferrable and must be purchased at the time of booking.
