Those most widely followed by the media were the Ames Straw Poll held in Iowa on August 11, 2007, which was won by former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, and the Texas Straw Poll of September 1, 2007, which was won by Congressman Duncan Hunter. Congressman Ron Paul currently leads all Republican candidates in total straw poll victories.
