BJP to take up coalgate in Parliament

The focus of opposition attack will be law minister Ashwani Kumar for "interfering with CBI's probe into the coal
scam," with BJP having already demanded his resignation.

NEW DELHI: Opposition BJP is preparing to take on the government over
the Coalgate issue as soon as Parliament opens for the second half of the
budget session on Monday.
The focus of opposition attack will be law minister Ashwani Kumar for
"interfering with CBI's probe into the coal scam," with BJP having already
demanded his resignation.


The coal block allocation scam, which is being probed by CBI, involves the
Prime Minister's Office as the PM himself held the coal portfolio during the
period that irregularities regarding allocations happened.


While the final decision on the party's strategy in Parliament will be shaped
at a formal meeting on Saturday, senior BJP leaders met at L K Advani's
residence on Thursday to decide on issues that are likely to come up in the
session.


With the government planning to bring up the Land Border Agreement
(LBA) with Bangladesh for ratification in the House, BJP is likely to oppose
the constitutional amendment which needs the support of two-thirds of
members present and voting in each House. It will be difficult for the
government to pass the amendment without the BJP's support.
