Engineering the future Welcome Benvenuto Bienvenue Willkommen Bienvenidos Bem-vindo Välkommen Tervetuloa Witamy Vítejte Üdvözöljük Russian Bulgarian Fiti binevenit Chinese simpl Japanese Corean Arabian Hosgeldiniz Indian 5 The history of SAMP and its brands has always been eventful. Gradually we have grown to become one of the largest gear and screw production equipment suppliers and one of the top wire and cable equipment manufacturers in the world. Continuity is very important to us; starting out from a small work shop, our values have always reflected the way in which we run our business. An ethical approach in dealing with customers, partners and employees; initiative and determination in supplying the best technology around; and constant investment into research and development have always been foremost in our mission. Innovative vision, however, is fundamental in today’s industrial world. At SAMP we see ourselves as a company that is always open to change and new ideas. Our business is a continuous learning process in which we strive to develop new and innovative solutions that enable our customers to get to the top in their own sectors and maintain a leading position. We aim at innovating the most efficient manufacturing processes. We focus on minimising auxiliary times, maximising equipment availability while realising savings on expensive raw materials and running costs. Thus, as we look forward and adapt to better serve you as a customer, we also look back and take pride in those values which have enabled SAMP to become a global player, values which will accompany us into the future as we work to make your business a success. Thank you for your trust. Antonio Maccaferri President Where we come from In 1936 Gaetano Maccaferri started out with a small workshop for the production of wire machinery. He called his company S.A.M.P., which translates from Italian as "Company for Precision Metalworking". Since it was difficult to find good quality gears on the market at that time, he started manufacturing his own. During the second world war S.A.M.P. supplied the Italian air-force with precision gears but the demanding quality requirements forced the Company to produce his own high-precision tools. For the same reason he was later to start developing his own tool grinding machinery and checking instruments, manufacturing equipment that set the standard at those times. With a wide range of quality tools on board by 1949, S.A.M.P. decided to establish Samputensili, an ad hoc structure and trademark through which to trade these products, and, in the years that followed, this new company was to grow into a supplier of gear cutting tools at worldwide level. The second division of S.A.M.P., Sampingranaggi, came into being in 1973, extending the company’s gear production programme to include bevel gear sets and high precision speed reducers. Before long Sampingranaggi was therefore able to supply both single components and finished speed reducers. In 1997 S.A.M.P.’s wire drawing machinery division took the name of Sampsistemi and, thanks to the acquisition of competing companies, it broadened its programme to include extrusion equipment for the manufacture of finished cables. In the year 2000 Samputensili acquired the renowned German gear hobbing machine manufacturer, Hurth Modul GmbH, becoming one of the few players in the world to offer a complete gear manufacturing programme, covering both roughing and finishing operations. 1936 – S.A.M.P. – Società Anonima Meccanica di Precisione is founded in 1936 as a company of the Maccaferri Industrial Group. Production includes wire drawing machines; looms for weaving metallic meshes; general mechanical parts; and gears. 1947 – The company moves from Zola Predosa to Bologna. The manufacture of shaven and ground cylindrical gears, as well as lapped bevel gears continues to expand in support of growing market demand for wire drawing machinery. 1949 – Samputensili is founded as a spin-off from S.A.M.P., producing quality gear cutting tools. Its first customer is the Italian Army Aviation. The 50's – The first Samputensili sales office is opened in Germany. The 60's – S.A.M.P. begins building machinery to draw non-ferrous materials (copper, aluminium and alloys of the same). The 70's – Samputensili starts expanding all over the world. Samputensili France and Samputensili do Brasil are founded. Sampingranaggi is created in 1973 as a division of S.A.M.P.. The company Mc Draw is founded in Williamsport, MD / USA), later to become SAMP USA. The 80's – Expansion continues and Samputensili America is founded. The 90's – More offices are opened: Samputensili Japan, Samputensili Korea and Samputensili China in Beijing. SAMP opens its SAMP Moscow regional office. In 1997 SAMP enters into the Extrusion market. 2000 – Hurth Modul GmbH in Chemitz is acquired. Its hobbing machines complete the Samputensili production programme. Sampsistemi opens a service centre in Shanghai. 2002 – Samputensili and Star Cutter Inc., MI/USA join forces to form Star SU LLC in North America, later acquiring the Fellows Gear Shaper Cutter Division. 2004 – Sampsistemi starts the machine production in Shanghai. 2005 – Samputensili Machine Tools Company Limited is founded in Shanghai as a joint-venture between Samputensili and STW Shanghai Tool Works. 2006 – Sampsistemi, Sampingranaggi and Samputensili merge to form SAMP S.p.A., the mechanical engineering business of the Maccaferri Industrial Group. 2009 – The new SAMP plant in Bentivoglio/Italy integrates several activities in one modern location. Creating lasting success through innovative solutions is at the heart of what we do at SAMP.
