One of the best places to start is at home with a reasonable bedtime and a good breakfast (B & B). B & B is an important part of every student receiving a quality education A reasonable bedtime of 8-8:30PM for elementary children allows plenty of rest for their growing bodies and minds and gives them the energy to stay alert and focused in the classroom. Our growing students also need a good breakfast to fuel their minds, allowing them a better ability to think and learn. Please help us ensure an excellent education and bright future for our students with a good B & B! I hope to see all of you this Saturday, Oct. 10, at “The Amazing Race”, Booksin’s Walkathon. Many hours of preparation have gone into making this year’s annual fundraiser a successful and wonderful day for everyone. You’re invited to bring along your family members & friends to enjoy the fun, food, and festivities at Walkathon. See you there! He's the man behind the scenes, always helping us keep our campus clean and running well.  To encourage all our students to recycle the paper lunch trays, paperin the classroom  as well as pick up around campus, CORNERSTONE and GO GREEN have invented JOHNNY PAWS!  Who can earn one?  Any student who is taking recycling seriously, showing good REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE behavior or picking up trash.   It's an easy way to reward kids who go green above and beyond. The PAWS are worth the same as a BULLDOG BUCK but with an added bonus.  If the recipient chooses, it can be put in a special drawing where three lucky winners will be announced at each Spirit Assembly.  The Paws are collected in the Library. Be sure their first and last names are on it!  3rd prize is $5.00 gift certificate to Powell's, 2nd prize is $10.00 gift certificate to Hicklebee's and the Grand Prize is a Pizza lunch with Mrs. Maijala and two friends! Every Assembly the prizes will vary.  Booksin School Vision: Booksin School is a supportive, safe, and caring learning community where challenging and enriched instruction considers diverse student needs resulting in academic success and the fulfillment of every student's potential. LOST & FOUND The blue lost & found bin is now located in the cafeteria, up front by the stage. It’s completely full sweatshirts, jackets, lunch bags - you name it, it’s in there!. Please remember to mark your child’s clothing items with his or her name. Take a minute to stop by the bin at this Saturday’s Walkathon to check for anything your child has been missing. HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE Proper disposal of hazardous materials is a responsibility we all share. Mercury is a potent nerve toxin and considered very hazardous. When it escapes into the environment, it is transported by air, rain or runoff and deposited in creeks and bays. Over time mercury is passed up the food chain even to humans. Some common household products that contain mercury include fluorescent lamps, fever thermometers, button batteries, as well as some switches and thermostats. Most hardware stores accept these items for proper recycling. Let’s all do our part to keep the Earth free of dangerous pollutants by recycling with care! For more information about pollutants and hazardous waste,or to arrange an appointment for drop-off, contact Santa Clara County Dept. of Environmental Health at (408) 299-7300.
