The FLORIDA ARTIST GROUP was incorporated as a non-pr0fit organization of
practicing artists who had gained recognition nationally or statewide and
whose work would contribute significantly to it's exhibitions. For 33 years
the group has supported the stimulation of finer standards of the creative
effort within the State of Florida .
        The committee wishes to extend a special thank you to the Boca Raton Center;
to the Singing Pines Museum for the Area Show; to Zip Print for the exhibit
entry folders; the Ethel Klassen Memorial monies for making the appearance
of Atsuko Lefcourte possible; to the private donor for providing funds that
enabled Mr. Sam Hunter to be a part of the symposium; to the First American
Bank of Palm Beach and our Annual Award sponsors.
We look towards 1983 and being able to contribute to t~e cultural enha~cement
        of another city in Florida.

                                        JURIED SHOWS
To insure an annual exhibition of exceptional quality, the show is juried. The organization
always brings in an eminent juror from out-of-state who is prominently associated with art
administration, education, or a painter or sculptor of national repute. Past locations of
exhibitions have included the Norton Gallery, Ringling Museum, Curruner Gallery of Art the
Jacksonville Art Museum, Miami Metropolitan Museum and the Lowe Museum, University of South
Florida, University of Florida, Rollins College, Daytona Museum of Arts and Sciences, the
Boca Raton Center for the Arts as well as many other outstanding galleries .

                                            JUROR
The Florida Artist Group, Inc. is privileged to have as juror for our 33rd Annual Exhibition
Mr. Gudmund Vigtel, Director of the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, Georgia. Born in 1925, Mr.
Vigtel attended college in Norway and Art school in Stockholm, Sweden. He was associated
with United Press until 1948 when a scholarship brought him 111 to the United States, attending
the High Museum Art School. The University of Georgia awarded him a B.F.A . in 1952 an M~F.A.
in 1953 . He was assistant director of the Corcoran Gallery of Art unt i 1 named l)[j)irector of
the High Museum of Art in 1963 .
                                       JUROR' S STATEMENT
Inenvitably the pieces selected have a quality of conviction and authority which made them
stand out among the entries. To this juror at least , skill and knowledge are important fac-
tors in works of art. If invention and daring also play into the skillful making of art,
something of importance may present itself to the viewer demanding special attention. Thus
the decisions are made in this intensive process of comparing one object to another . It is
my hope that these choises are evidence of this process.
