In September 2010 the world’s best competitors will descend on Edinburgh for the biggest, most important archery competition ever seen in the UK. Taking place in the beautiful Princes Street Gardens, below the imposing skyline of Edinburgh Castle, the competition will bring the skill and tension of knockout archery matches into the very heart of Scotland’s capital city. With international TV distribution, local marketing and a guaranteed city centre audience, the Archery World Cup Final 2010 provides a special opportunity for sponsorship and marketing activities in the build-up to the London 2012 Olympics Games.

The Competition
• The 32 best archers in the world - 16 Men, 16 Women • 2 disciplines for Compound & Recurve bows • Knockout format - two archers going head to head • Each match, 12 arrows per archer . Each archer shoots 4 sets of 3 arrows, alternately • Each archer shoots 3 arrows per end at a target from 70m • A maximum of 30 seconds per arrow allowed • The archer with the highest score goes to next round • In the event of a tie, there is a one arrow tie-breaker

The Location
The Field of Play for the competition will be the stunning East Princes Street Gardens, an oasis of lush green grass and mature trees in the heart of Edinburgh. It is bounded on the north by Princes Street, one of Britain’s busiest thoroughfares, and on the west side is overlooked by the National Gallery of Scotland. To the south the imposing Bank of Scotland building leads up to the rocky crags of Edinburgh Castle, dominating the skyline for miles around. East Princes Street Gardens also features the striking Sir Walter Scott Monument.

Who is delivering it?
The Archery World Cup Final 2010 is being organised and hosted by the City of Edinburgh Council. The event management is being handled on behalf of the Council by Rare Management (the multi-award winning team behind the successful Fort William Mountain Bike World Cup and World Championships). The bulk of the budget has been secured from the principal partner agencies - City of Edinburgh Council, EventScotland and UK Sport. The governing body partners are FITA (Fédération International de Tir à l’Arc), Archery GB and the Scottish Archery Association. The overall World Cup circuit sponsors include high-profile sponsors such as Kia Motors, Turkish Airlines and Longines. The event team will include more than 50 volunteers from all over the UK.
