Before submitting your application, please be sure that you have:

GUIDELINES FOR PREVIOUSLY FUNDED GRANT APPLICANTS
Banfield Charitable Trust is looking for community-wide projects that make life better for Pets and their families. Special consideration will be given to collaborative projects with Pet-related organizations, veterinary education programs, and Banfield Pet Hospital(s) working together to uphold our mission. The Banfield Charitable Trust’s funding priorities are: Promotion of preventive healthcare for Pets Educating children about veterinary medicine and the Pets they love (See special requirements in section E) Programs based on the human-Pet bond and how it relates to longer, healthier lives for Pets and people Veterinary school education programs that help veterinary students or licensed veterinarians learn or improve their skills Disaster preparedness and response (See special requirements in section F)
The Banfield Charitable Trust does not fund: Spay and neuter or adoption programs. (Note: We will consider requests for programs that protect against preventable disease for Pets that are in families or Pets that are ready and going to adoption.) General operating expenses, deficit reduction, or general administrative overhead expenses. Fundraising campaigns, including special events. Grants to individuals, or to provide support for business enterprise. Equine programs International programs Construction costs for new buildings or remodeling proposals
Financial Guidelines The Banfield Charitable Trust prefers grant applications from small and medium sized nonprofits. However, if your operating budget is greater than $5,000,000, the project budget for which you are seeking funding must be less than $250,000. As a previous grant recipient, there are guidelines outlining how much you may request based on length of time you have been receiving funding from the Banfield Charitable Trust. These rules apply even if you are applying for a new project. If you received funding for one year, you may apply for 25% of your qualified project budget If you received funding for two years, you may apply for 20% of your qualified project budget If you received funding for three or more years, you may apply for 10% of your qualified project budget If your request is in line with our funding priorities and financial guidelines, all applicants must submit the following: I. GRANT APPLICATION FORM II. NARRATIVE (maximum of six pages) A. Briefly describe the project or program for which you are requesting a grant from Banfield Charitable Trust. B. Provide an introduction and background of your organization incorporating the following points: 1. Briefly describe your organization’s history and major accomplishments. 2. Describe your current programs and activities. 3. Who is your constituency? How do they benefit from this program and/or your organization?
C. Describe your project in detail, incorporating the following points: 1. Problem statement: what problems, needs, or issues does your project address? 2. Describe how the program matches one or more of the Banfield Charitable Trust’s funding priorities. 3. Describe the program’s goals and activities involved in this request. 4. How many Pets or people will be helped by your project? 5. How does your work make life better for Pets and their families? 6. How will this program sustain a long-term impact on the community? 7. Describe any involvement that Banfield associates will have with this project. 8. If your program is designed to assist low-income adults or children, describe how you will verify income. 9. Indicate other organizations you have contacted (or plan to contact) for funding. D. Describe your plan for evaluating the success of the project incorporating the following points: 1. How will you measure the success of the program? 2. How will you track the result? 3. What questions will be addressed? 4. Who will be involved in evaluating this work? 5. How will the evaluation results be used? E. If you are applying for program funding for a childhood education program, please visit our FutureVet site BEFORE completing your application. The site address is www.futurevet.net If you find that FutureVet materials can meet all or part of your needs, indicate how many FutureVet kits you need in the appropriate place on the grant application. Please note that FutureVet presentations are designed to be presented by licensed veterinarians. F. If you are applying for a disaster preparedness and/or disaster response grant, you must complete all application requirements in this document AND you must demonstrate that your program: 1. Is available statewide or can easily be rolled out statewide 2. Contains a significant component addressing how the program will prepare learners to assist Pets from “at risk” homes (elderly, chronically ill, disabled, etc.) 3. Has already secured more than 50% of the necessary funding. You must be seeking less than 50% of your program funding to be considered for a grant from the Banfield Charitable Trust. III. ATTACHMENTS A. Banfield Associate Recommendation Since we cannot personally meet with each grant seeker, we count on Banfield associates to be our eyes and ears within their communities. A recommendation from a Banfield associate means that someone who understands the Banfield Charitable Trust’s funding priorities and mission has talked with the grant seeker and believes the program aligns with what the BCT is trying to accomplish. If you have a Banfield Hospital in your area, we ask that you meet with someone on the local hospital team, explain your program to them, and ask for an endorsement. The recommendation form for the Banfield associate to complete is included in the grant application package. B. Organizational Structure 1. Briefly summarize the qualifications of key individuals involved in the project. 2. Provide a list of your current board of directors. 3. Include an organizational chart showing decision-making structure. C. Finances 1. Project budget for the program for which you are requesting funding 2. Most recent, completed full year organizational financial statement - audited, if available. 3. Organization’s current annual operating budget 4. List individually other funding sources for this request. Include amounts whether received, committed or projected/pending. 5. Describe your plans for future fundraising. 6. A copy of your IRS 501(c)(3) determination letter. D. Program 1. If yours is an education program, include copies of your educational materials as an addendum to the narrative.

Please do not send your submission in a 3-ring binder; instead use standard binder clips to attach the narrative and attachments to the grant request form.
