Explorers Club: Hiking Camp Dates: Wednesdays, October 1, 8, 15, 22 and/or Sundays, October 4, 11, 18, 25 Time: Wednesdays 5 - 7 pm, Sundays 1 - 3 pm Fee: $100 Explorer's Pass (attend all 8 days) -or- $15/per day Audience: Ages 8 - 12 Attention REEC campers! Join us for some serious hiking on the 10 miles of trails through Boyce Mayview Park. We’ll be traveling the length of the park, exploring new trails never seen by our campers and entering into parts of the park many people have yet to see. Put on your hiking shoes and bring an eco-friendly snack as we stop along the quiet trails to learn about Leave No Trace Ethics and how we can experience nature without harming it! The forests and meadows abound with edibles in the fall. Animals rely on these tasty treats so why can't we! Join us as we taste our way through the fall bounty and learn the ever important lesson of plant identification and a test for determining a plant's edibility. Samples of edibles will be enjoyed during the presentation followed by our identification hike into the Boyce Mayview Park. Making the Most Out of What You Already Have: Using the Environment and Recycled Objects to Teach Hands-on Science ACT 48 Workshop Dates: October 12 Time: 8:30 am - 3:30 pm Fee: $30 per person Science materials are not cheap and you don't always have time to take a field trip but this doesn't mean you can't do hands-on activities or go outside! The Regional Environmental Education Center staff will take you through easy to do and make outdoor, hands-on activities that can easily fit into even the tightest lesson plan. We'll be outdoors and active for the entire day in the beautiful Boyce Mayview Park as we utilize our outdoor

classroom and the scenic, peaceful trails that meander through the forest, meadows and flood plain. Activities and materials are provided. A light breakfast and lunch is included in the program fee. Activities can be adapted for grades K-12. This program is being offered as part of the AIU BOSS County Wide In-service Day. Six (6) ACT 48 hours will be credited through the AIU. Opossums, skunks and rabbits Oh My! Join the REEC in welcoming the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium and their live educational animals for this exciting family program. This amazing live animal presentation will introduce you to local Pennsylvania wildlife you could see in your own backyard. After the presentation we’ll venture into the woods in search of animal signs! Bring the whole family! Pre-registered groups of 3 or more receive a 10% discount. Cub Scout Multi-Pack Adventure Day: Weather Dates: October 18 Time: 2 - 5 pm Fee: $15 per scout Audience: Cub Scouts Join other South Hills Cub Scouts for our third annual Cub Scout Fall Adventure Day under the painted canopy of Autumn's leaves and the ever changing Pennsylvania weather! This fall each Cub Scout will earn the Weather pin and loop and receive a REEC participation patch. Packs are encouraged to register together but individual scouts may also sign up.
